Discipline and Student Code of Conduct Videos - Show in Class on Monday
I wanted to send two videos that teachers can show students next week to accompany campus expectations for behavior. Both videos address behavior in virtual platform and face to face so they can be shown for all students. The first one is about basic behavior expectations:
- GISD 2020 Student Expectations https://youtu.be/N_HEIL_j9y4
- The second video is regarding the Student Code of Conduct and is geared for elementary students for both remote and face to face learning https://youtu.be/OpYdlxOacJg
Both videos are ready to go to use in class!!
Breakfast in the Classroom
Due to the low numbers of students returning for each classroom it would be very helpful to the cafeteria if we consolidated the distribution of breakfast. With that in mind we have combined classes that are close together for logistical reasons.
The point of pickup will eliminate any backtracking for students. The student check-off list will be left with the coolers in the morning. Desks will be placed outside your door for the coolers. The teacher that is the point of pickup will distribute the food for both classes listed.

Security Updates
1. Classroom Door Windows: The question about covering the classroom door window has been discussed with our police agencies. Each agency has its own operational preference when it comes to the matter; to wit:
o If you are in Garland or Sachse, please leave this window uncovered; in Rowlett, please cover it.
o If the window is left uncovered, then ensure all teachers know that if there is a lockdown situation in your school, they should not attempt to cover that window; doing so would place them in a vulnerable situation, especially given the cause for lockdown (imminent life-safety situation).
2. Drills during COVID-19: We will conduct all scheduled drills and exercises as found in the District Emergency Operations Plan, though we will conduct them with COVID-19 recommendations in mind (e.g., social distancing, face coverings, etc.).
3. 4 Basic Principles of Security in Garland ISD:
1) Positively engage all visitors at the campus: If someone is on the campus or in the school without a Raptor Visitor Badge or District ID, that person should be engaged by staff and escorted to the office for proper registration to the campus.
2) Sound the alarm: If something is seen or heard or discovered to be a risk to the safety of students, staff, and visitors to the campus, whoever discovers it should immediately tell someone in authority (any and all staff members are empowered to call 9-1-1 in a life-safety situation).
3) Teach with classroom doors closed and locked: Experience has shown that the risk of violence is mitigated by classroom doors remaining closed and locked.
4) Respond to the greater threat: Always respond to that threat which is imminent (for example, if in lockdown and the fire alarm sounds, do not respond to the fire alarm unless the threat from the fire is greater than the reason for the lockdown).
Attendance - Don't Forget 'P' for Present!
Starting Tuesday you will have some students in your rooms with you. Any student that chose F2F and is physically present get marked P - Present. If a F2F student is not physically in the room with you, they are marked absent. The official time to submit attendance returns to 10AM beginning Tuesday, September 8.
Remote student attendance remains the same.
You are doing a great job marking your attendance each day. Last week our daily attendance low was 93.14, Friday. Our high was 95.68 on Wednesday. Keep reaching out to students that aren't joining your google meet to ensure they login to Canvas. Let's see if we can get to 95% everyday next week, I know you can do it!
Lunch with a Staff Member - We still need lots!
Thank you to those who have already submitted theirs!!
