Duct Tape Station
Create a Bookmark
Overview
Duct tape crafts are very popular with students and a good addition to any makerspace. There are numerous advantages to this station, such as appealing to a wide age range of students. A duct tape station fosters creativity by having participants use their imagination to create objects with limited materials. Depending on the age of the participants crafts can vary from simplistic to elaborate. Another advantage to this station is that is portable, does not take up a lot of room and relatively inexpensive.
A simplistic challenge, such as a duct tape bookmark, allows all students to be successful by creating a tangible object that they can keep. The Duct Tape station challenge is designed to encourage creativity with a focus on problem-solving, following sequential steps, fine motor, and a math focus with measuring. An additional goal of this challenge is to encourage reading by creating a craft related to literacy. The challenge at this station is a low tech, hands-on approach, which is simple enough that primary age students can be successful, while also appealing to upper elementary age students.
