ALB First Friday Newsletter
Hello March!
It's hard to believe that March is already here! We welcome Spring this month! As we wrap up winter, we appreciate parents who are reminding children to cough and sneeze into their elbows, wash and sanitize hands, and who stay home when they have a fever. Many of our students have been affected by nasty viruses!
In classrooms, we have seen some awesome learning experiences. In a Kinder class, students made green eggs and ham to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. Fourth graders studied rhythm and descante in music class, Ms. Taylor's class kicked off a unit on WWII by putting pics with their captions in chronological order. PE classes participated in Jump Rope for Heart, raising money for the American Heart Association. John Ellars with Marietta Tree Keepers worked with Forester Joe Burgess to plant two new cherry trees with the first grade students. We laughed when we learned that they named the tree "Julie, Jillian, John Cena." We love first grade humor!
Book Fair Wrap-up: We made $1525 for the library fund! Parents purchased 45 books for teachers’ classrooms! We got 20 new books for the library! 41 books were given away to students as prizes for things like the Black History Month BNN Trivia Contest, Top AR Point earners, Books & Bagels Teacher Event, and a 5th grade media lesson contest. Because of the generosity of Burruss parents and their friends (organized by Kerry Carter, a 2A parent), 88 of our most needy students – some from each classroom - got to pick out a reading book from the Book Fair!! Thank you Kerry and friends!!
The Burruss Reading Bowl Team won the district competition and placed 3rd in the Regional competition! Way to go, Super Readers!

March Learner Profile Word
Balanced:
They understand the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others.
IBPYP is a way to organize teaching and learning that allows students to become inquirers. We do not know what the future will be. The world’s knowledge base is growing at an incredible rate. We do not know what jobs the school children of today will hold tomorrow. However, we do know that our children will experience many changes. IBPYP gives our children the skills that they will need to truly become lifelong learners. The Learner Profile and attitudes help children develop characteristics necessary for getting along with and working with others. The same characteristics are fostered in IB schools around the world.
The Learner Profile is central to the PYP definition of what it means to be internationally minded, and it directs schools to focus on the learning. The Learner Profile is a set of character traits that are discussed and encouraged as a part of the IBPYP program.
