Message From the Principal
Attendance plays a big role on students grades and their ability to stay caught up on their school work and in turn participate in our Monthly Celebration.
We understand that students are sick and need to miss a day here and there for various things (students are given one day for everyday missed when sick plus an additional day to turn their work in before it is counted missing) I would like us to all work together to help students get caught up. Teachers pull students into Teaming to go over missing assignments and what items they need to work on, students have the option of PAWS or Math Lab to work on their school work and get caught up when absent.
It is important for students to look at their Skyward and Schoology when they are gone to see what work they need to do and to ask their teachers if they have any questions or need help on anything. If you don't have access to Skyward to help your child look at their grades and assignment please reach out and we can reset your password and help you with Skyward.
We offer the After School Program four days a week which is a great way for students to get additional support and help on their work.
Below are the Top 10 Reasons to Be in School Every Day
1. Better Grades- The better your attendance the higher your grades
2. Less Stress- When you miss school, you have lots of assignments to make up. That's stressful.
3. You Learn More- Learning a little every day in class is much better than having to learn everything you missed on your own.
4. More Likely to Graduate- Students who have poor attendance are less likely to graduate.
5. Time with Friends- When you are at school, you can spend time with friends (and make new ones).
6. Good Habits- You'll develop good habits for success- like showing up every day and being on time (which are habits employers look for).
7. Mentors- Your school is full of people who can offer you advice and guidance, like teachers and counselors. If you aren't at school, you won't get the chance to develop those relationships- which means the you totally miss out.
8. Preparation for your Future- The knowledge you develop in school will help you be successful throughout your life.
9. Personal development- The more you're in school, the more you learn. And the more you learn, the more intelligent, capable, and interesting you become.
10. Pride- When you're succeeding in your classes, your parents and teachers are proud of you. But most importantly, you feel proud of yourself- and that's a great feeling!

Connecting with the Counselor
We learned a new term this week -- CAREER CLUSTER! We started talking about how all jobs can be grouped together based on unique traits belonging to that job. The students did an excellent job playing detective to figure out what each of the six career clusters we talked about have in common.
Next week, we will start to dive deeper into each career cluster (color) and look at what different jobs belong in each cluster.
6th, 7th, 8th
This week, students worked individually in their Xello as they answered self-reflective questions that gave them more information about what career might be the best match for them. Students will continue to work through these lessons and reflect about what they have learned.
But, wait! There's more!
I would also like to share another resource that I found this week. I would encourage you to have a conversation with your student about boundaries. I have attached an article and a YouTube video that you can watch with your student, and hopefully have a good discussion.
