Google Chrome

  • To sign into Chrome:
    1. Click on the person icon in the top right corner.
    2. Enter your email address and password.
    3. Click "Link data."


    To sign out:

    1. Click your name in the upper right hand corner.
    2. Click "switch person."
    3. Hover over your icon until you see a dropdown icon appear (upper right corner) and click.
    4. Click "remove the person."
    5. Click the red "Remove this person."

    REMEMBER: Don't worry. Your data is being removed from the computer, not the cloud.

Address Bar aka Omni Box

  • Omnibox - Google's "address bar" that also searches, calculates, does a timer, cooks your supper (OK, not really but wouldn't that be nice?)
  • Calculate - type a math problem in the omnibox and it calculates for you!
  • Timer - type set timer for (how ever much time) and it sets a timer
  • Power Searches: Specific phrases to help find more specific information. Make sure no spaces.
  • intext: - has the word or phrase anywhere in the text of that site.
  • link: - shows you what other websites link to the one you enter.
  • filetype: - searches for a specific file type extension (ex; pdf, doc, jpg)
  • related: - returns other websites similar to the one entered.

Tabs


  • Close them out.
  • Open a new one.
  • Drag and drop them to where you want them.
  • Reopen a closed tab.
  • Pin a Tab

Bookmarks

Create a shortcut or favorite for frequently visited sites:


  • "Turn on" the bookmarks bar from the setting icon.
  • Use the star icon in the Omnibox to create one.
  • You may edit the label or delete the text entirely and just the leave the "Favicon"
  • Drag and drop the bookmarks to create an order meaningful to you.

Extensions

  • What are they? Additions to the Chrome Browser that work over websites.

  • How do you get them? Google Chrome store

  • How do you get rid of them? Hot dogs > More Tools > Extensions - here you can delete, enable, or disable them.

  • Goo.gl- URL shortener and QR code generator

  • Tab cloud - saves any open tabs and one click will reopen them.

  • Readline - flashes a row of text to read

  • EasyBib - Works with the website and creates a bibliography page.

  • Google Tone - sends out a tone to other computers with extension installed and sends a a site to it.

  • Read and Write for google - full version FREE for teachers!

  • DocentEDU - makes any (well almost any) website interactive.

  • Boomerang for Gmail - sends back an email after a certain period of time. Also allows you to "send later".

Google Drive

  • My Drive- Includes everything you’ve created or uploaded/synced.

  • Shared with me- Files that others have shared with you.

  • Starred- Files and folders you have deemed as star-worthy.

  • Recent- Everything you’ve recently viewed or worked on in the order it was last updated

  • Activity- Everything in your Google Drive in the order it was updated.

  • Offline- Enable offline editing so that changes made will be saved to the computer when you are not online. - Go to settings>offline.

  • All Items- Everything you have created or has been shared by you.

  • Trash- All files/folders that have been removed from your Drive.

  • Owner, Type, More- Sort files by type, visibility, or ownership.

  • Downloading Google Drive App - on your teacher computer, download the google drive app. You can put files into that folder on your computer and it will save the online as well. Go to Settings>Download Drive

Google Docs

  • Click on “New”, then “Google Doc”

  • Functions like a Microsoft Word document for basic formatting

  • Added features include ability to share, collaborate, view revision history, publish to the web, and translate the document

Google Sheets

  • Click “New”, then “Google Sheets"

  • Functions like Microsoft Excel for basic functions

  • Added features include ability to create a form from the spreadsheet, share, collaborate, and publish to the web

Google Slides

  • Click on “New”, then “Google Slides"

  • Functions like Microsoft PowerPoint for basic formatting

  • Added features include ability to import selected slides from another presentation, share, collaborate, view revision history, and publish to the web

Sharing and Collaborating

  • In the document, sheet, or presentation click on the blue share button in the top right hand corner.
  • Enter email addresses of people you want to share with.
  • Change the permission you want that person to have.
  • You can also share the link buy choosing anyone with the link can edit, comment, or view.
  • Then you would send out the link.
  • If you change something in the document that is shared, everyone will see it.
  • In the document, sheet, or presentation click on the blue share button in the top right hand corner.

Revision History

  • Stay informed about who’s editing
  • See when the site was edited
  • Revert back to a previous version

Google Forms

  • Forms can be used to collect data for a variety of reason
  • Click “New”, then “Form”
  • Create title and select theme (you can change this later!)
  • Add a description if desired
  • Enter in Questions- Select type of response and whether item is required
  • To preview the form, click on “View live form”
  • To designate where responses are collected, click on “Choose response destination”

Flubaroo

  • Auto grading for Google sheets
  • After the assignment is completed, go to the sheet and click on add-ons.
  • Find Flubaroo and enable it.
  • Go back to the sheet and click on add-ons and Flubaroo.
  • Choose grade assignment and go through the steps.

Save as Doc

  • Takes text from a spread sheet row and puts it into a Google doc.
  • Use with paragraph text to make it easier to grade.
  • Good for compositions. (so kids don't have to have email and you don't have to take papers home!!)
