(New) Eastview Boys Alpine Ski team finish Seventh at Buck Hill Varsity Meet
It was a seventh place finish for the Eastview Boys Alpine ski team Thursday on a night that was absolutely not meant for a night of skiing with temperatures well below zero with wind chill. It was a weird night with Ryan Whalen having to do three runs on the night instead of two due to a tardy gate judge not being able to get out of the way of a blazing Ryan Whalen barreling down the course. Ryan shook off the run to smoke two runs in 21 and change to finish fourth overall. Sophomore Noah Rolling was next for Eastview putting up a career best number to finish 29th overall. Also earning points for Eastview were 8th grader Max Espena, sophomore Finn Ward and junior Nicholas Leichner.
(New) Eastview Girls Alpine Ski Team Finish Third on Cold Night at Buck Hill
The Eastview girls toughed out the brutal conditions on Thursday night to take home third place in the Varsity event. Many of the skiers turned in career best performances on the night proving that when the going gets tough, the tough get going with great runs. Leading the way for Eastview was Kate Young who turned in two 21 and change runs which was good for 3rd place overall just .3 seconds behind the reigning State runner up. Following Kate was sister Megan Young who turned in a career best for an 8th place finish.
Elsa Youngberg and Ellen Heunisch improved on career best times last week to set new career best times to finish 29th and 30th overall. They led a pod of Eastview girls in the 30s that pushed the team toward the third place finish including junior Lilly Spade, sophomore Lily Ringold, and junior Kylie Nelson. Katelyn McClure had a troubled trip on her first run, but came back strong to run the 5th fastest team time on her second run.
(New) EVHS Boys Swim and Dive Faces Off Against Prior Lake - Feb. 9
The Eastview Boys Swim and Dive Team had their sixth meet of the season on Tuesday, February 9, competing against the Prior Lake Lakers. Lighting swimmers and divers challenged themselves in each event, with many of our athletes making improvements in their event times or scores from last week. The Lakers came away with the win, but Lightning athletes had a lot to be proud of at the end of this meet.
Diving was an area of excitement again this week, with Alex Sulistyo winning 1st place and Isaac Field taking 3rd. Alex set a new pool record for points earned in eleven dives, surpassing the old record by over thirty points. Congratulations, Alex!
Our relay teams worked together to cut time and cheer each other on. The varsity 200 Yard Medley Relay team won 1st place in a very close race, with Kyle Kunisaki, Nicholas Phomsouvanh, Max Blodgett, and Wyatt Olson securing the victory. Later on, the varsity 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Nicholas Phomsouvahn, Wyatt Olson, Alex Schmidt, and Mitchell Espena came away with the 3rd place finish. Another 3rd place finish for the Lightning was accomplished at the end of the night by Max Blodgett, Wyatt Olson, Alex Schmidt, and Kyle Kunisaki during the varsity 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
Individual accomplishments during this meet showed personal growth during the season and gained some points for the team along the way. In the varsity 200 Yard Freestyle, Alex Schmidt won 2nd place, then grabbed a 3rd place finish later on during the varsity 100 Yard Freestyle. Kyle Kunisaki placed 2nd during the varsity 200 Yard Individual Medley and came away with a 1st place victory in the varsity 100 Yard Backstroke. In a very tight varsity race, Nicholas Phomsouvanh sprinted to 1st place in the 50 Yard Freestyle, followed closely by teammate Max Blodgett in 3rd. Max got a 1st place win later on in the varsity 500 Yard Freestyle, and Nicholas achieved a second 1st place victory during the varsity 100 Yard Breastroke.
The Lightning will dive into their next round of competition on Friday, February 12th against Lakeville South. Eastview Swim and Dive fans are ready to cheer them on as the boys work together, set their goals, and strive to achieve them. Go, Lightning!
