SPRING FORWARD
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you so much for supporting the SPARK Book Fair. We had a record breaking event in more ways than one. We will receive 55% to use toward items our school needs, including books, furniture, storage, etc. Thank you so much for supporting the media center. This money will also be used to assist teacher's in building classroom libraries with books for teaching and student's interest.
If there is a book you missed, the online book fair will be open until Saturday, March 9th. All books will ship to Mrs. Griffin at SPARK after Saturday. Unless otherwise notified she will deliver the books to students.

Mrs. E. Jones (3rd grade) needs your gallon milk jugs.
Session with a Specialist
Hi! I’m Leah Pierce, the Visual Arts Specialist for SPARK Academy. Students come to art once a week for 30 minutes.
STEM and the Arts go together like the wheel and axle. That’s why you sometimes even hear it referred to as “STEAM” (adding the A for art!). One of the world’s greatest and most notable artists, Leonardo DaVinci, was also a scientist, engineer, botanist, and inventor.
In art class, almost every lesson we do connects the visual arts to an element of STEM. We also complete projects that correlate with the PBL units students are doing in their classrooms to further support their learning. For example, first grade students made clay animals that they were learning about through their PBL unit, and second and third graders created a giant map of Alabama wildflowers that tied in with their studies of local geography. Some other lessons we have done that connect the visual arts with STEM include: M.C. Escher tessellations (math); Leonardo Da Vinci/simple machine amusement parks (inventions and engineering); Alexander Calder kinetic mobiles (engineering); and a wonderful red-cabbage indicator printmaking lesson that will be published in an edition of School Arts Magazine, by Davis Arts! Student examples of these lessons are shown below.

Encourage your children to be creative every day!
