EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, CHARACTER
Week of November 13, 2017
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,
I want to begin by saying how impressed with and grateful I am for our FSA Parent Support Group and parent volunteers. It was admirable to see just how much work they all put into creating the environment for the book fair and for the FSA Families Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday night. You can see pictures from both of these events below. It was a joy to be able to spend that evening with our wonderful families and I look forward to it every year. Also, don't forget that the Book Fair will be going on until Wednesday, November 15th, so be sure to come and stock up on some new reading material for your student!
Congratulations to our Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, and Model UN Academic Teams, as well as our Boys Basketball Team on their wins last Wednesday and this past weekend! You can read more about these tournaments below. I am always blown away by the achievements of our students both academically and athletically! It truly shows just how invested our students, teachers, and coaches are in creating an uplifting and educational environment for everyone involved with our school! We have 2 basketball games coming up this week as well on Wednesday November 15 at 5:30 pm against Atlanta Jewish Academy here at home and on Thursday, November 16 at 5:00 pm against The Cottage School. Be sure to come out and support the team!
We have our Winter MAP Testing coming up shortly after we all get back from Thanksgiving Break. You can see a detailed schedule of the MAP Testing below in the calendar. I am confident that we can again achieve high scores like our Fall results and look forward to seeing just how much our students have progressed!
We have our 3rd Annual S.T.E.A.M. Video Contest coming up on January 19, 2018! Please watch the video below for more details!
Don't forget to check out our new Sideline Store!
The site allows the user to select the item, color, logo, and team whether it be academic or athletic; even different sayings! The possibilities are endless! There is everything from cotton shirts to Dri-Fit Nike or UA workout shirts! Any type of apparel you can think of, it has! I want to thank Coleson Randall, FSA's Athletic Director, on all of his hard work on bringing this site to fruition! Here are a couple pictures from the site, but be sure to check it out for yourself!
Now until November 18th, use the promo code TURKEYDAY and save 20% on all purchases of $80 or more!
We would like to encourage all of our families to apply for the State Tax Credit Scholarship program as it greatly benefits our students.
This program provides an opportunity for taxpayers to redirect Georgia tax dollars and, in turn, provide financial aid assistance to FSA students. We would greatly appreciate it if you would please apply and choose Fulton Science Academy Private School as your designated school.
Please also inform your friends, co-workers, and relatives who live in Georgia; they can also participate and help support our school.

High School Students Compete in first science olympiad tournament
FSA high school students competed in their first Science Olympiad Tournament of the season this past Saturday. The tournament was held at Forsyth Central High School. Since it is early in the season, this was not a team competition, but rather a chance for students to gain testing experience in the 23 Science Olympiad events.
Head Coaches Pam Walsh and Gloria Stathos had the opportunity to reconnect with many former FSA middle school team members. “We’ve been working at FSA since 2010, so students who were sixth and seventh graders then are now juniors and seniors,” said Pam Walsh. “There were at least 20 former FSA students who were competing for other high schools,” said Gloria Stathos. “Many of them are very successful Science Olympians and among our toughest competitors.”
Nearly 50 teams competed in the tournament and FSA placed in the top ten in six events. “Holden W. (9th Grade) and Jay E. (10th Grade) won third place medals in Astronomy, Nicholas F. (10th Grade) and Eric E. (11th Grade) placed 5th in Herpetology, Jay E. and Vishal B. (11th Grade) placed 6th in Hovercraft, Holden W. and Darwin K. (11th) placed 7th in Fermi Questions, Ethan G. (11th Grade) and Darwin K. placed 9th in Thermodynamics, and Nick F. and Halimah B. placed 9th in Dynamic Planet,” said Mrs. Walsh.

Please take a few moments to stop by and browse. Be sure to check out your favorite teachers’ wish lists and buy them a book for their classroom library.
Students can shop the book fair from 7:30 to 5:00 PM daily until Wednesday. All book fair proceeds support book purchases for the school media center.

STEAM Team "Recyclables Turned to Art" Needs your Help!
Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,
As you know we are doing a course called STEAM for grades 6-11. Students have already submitted topics, team members, and they have received their steam teachers. Our 7th grade steam group: Aileen H. Sydney X. Ranjani V. Nina T. and Derek Z. need certain materials that are not easily accessible. We need donations of items like old toys, broken toys, used school materials, magazines, old books, small broken pieces of anything, small knick-knacks and trinkets that you do not want or need around your house. We also really need bottle caps. There are boxes in the Cafeteria and by the Front Desk where students can drop off their donations. They are at the entrance right where they walk in first thing in the morning before they are released to their lockers and right by the trophy cabinet in the Lobby. There are multiple boxes, each labeled by category. All students need to do is bring in their donation(s), drop it off in one of the bins and one of the students from our team will come by at the end of each week and collect the materials. Note that they don’t have to be a specific color, shape, or size. Anything that you would easily throw away you can donate. Thank you for your participation!
Vocabulary Bowl
The 2017-18 Vocabulary Bowl is starting soon. How will Fulton Science Academy rank in Georgia and in the nation? It’s up to your students.
What is the Vocabulary Bowl? It's a competition where students learn vocabulary and work together to propel their school to victory. Last year, over 38,800 schools participated and collectively mastered over 26.8 million words!
For more information of the Vocabulary Bowl Click here

Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
