How To Build Trust
One key to schools building trust with the community is transparency. If the community feels like they are left in the dark, then distrust can build quickly. The practice of transparency can be translated into being upfront and real with folks. There are clauses of confidentiality that are covered in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) which limits our transparency. However, with our systems and practices we have in place, we will always be transparent and my door and mind will remain open to suggestions.
In the spirit of transparency, I want to disclose our intentional approach in making student-centered decisions daily. In other words, we always have your child's best interests in mind and what is best for kids is at the heart of the decisions we make.
Leading with integrity is a priority. I think the best description of integrity is doing the right thing when no one else is watching. However, when there are a lot of people who are watching and are impacted by decisions that are made, it adds a lot of gravity to every decision. That is why we remain invested in the students, the support staff and the teachers involved in the process of preparing students for their futures.
Thank you for the support that so many of you provide for our community school and I encourage you to share any thought you have on improving our practices at Palmer High.

Nordic Skiers Are Dual Region Champions
Cross-Country Ski Team Makes School History
This team was lead by our outstanding Nordic Coach, Mr. Evan's. Under his guidance, along with his coaching staff, they helped develop the top two skiers in the region for both the boys and girls team. Senior Joseph Walling was the top boy's skier in the region followed by senior Kaj Taylor. The ladies team also had the top two skiers with a 1st place finish by junior Aila Berrigan followed closely by her sophomore teammate, Rosie Whittington-Evans.
Great Job! Go Moose!!
Palmer High's Sandwich Project Continues to Grow
Zoe's vision and ambition are not complete and she has developed new ways to help.
The Sandwich Project helps students in the Mat-Su Valley that rely on school-provided meals during the week. Unfortunately, these students don't always have reliable meals over the weekend. The Sandwich Project provides meals in plain bags that are delivered every Friday to fill this weekend gap.
Currently, the project is implemented in Palmer High School, Palmer Jr. Middle School, Sherrod, Swanson, Finger Lake, and Butte Elementary schools. The Sandwich Project has done a lot of expanding over the years and we are currently serving over eighty students a week and are expected to grow.
In an effort to supplement the project we have created an Amazon Wish List of items that are in need. If you would like to support the Sandwich Project please consider purchasing items on this wishlist.

How Are We Monitoring Coronavirus?
At this time, there are no cases of COVID-19 In Alaska. Administration continues to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) progression and is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Alaska Department of Epidemiology and our local Public Health Office.
MSBSD also has guidance on how to support schools if the Coronavirus is confirmed in our area and will operate within our Emergency Operations Plan. The flyer attached was created by DHSS to help the public better understand what COVID-19 is, how it is spread and how to prevent contracting the virus. Questions regarding COVID-19 can contact the Alaska Section of Epidemiology at (907) 269-8000.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or if I can be of further assistance.
