Tashua School Weekly Updates
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
March 26, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
It was wonderful to have our students back in school on Wednesday this week! The children are doing quite well and are thrilled to be experiencing more and more normalcy each and every day! I am pleased to report, we are down to 35 Total Remote Learners and as more vaccinations are administered, I am confident this number will continue to lower!
As Dr. Semmel mentioned in his monthly update, we are hoping more students will begin riding the bus to and from school. If you are comfortable making this transportation change for your child, please inform the office so we can continue to ensure that assigned seats are given to all passengers.
Congratulations goes out to all of our students for the fine work they completed throughout Trimester 2! I am extremely proud of their efforts and determination to excel. As you review the trimester 2 report card with your child, please be sure to celebrate your child's successes and help them to set goals for Trimester 3.
As we enter the third trimester, and the weather starts to improve, it will be important for you to continue to motivate your child to do well in school. It is best to do this with words of encouragement rather than words of praise. Words of praise lead your child to rely on your assessment of his/her accomplishments, while words of encouragement lead your child to form his/her own positive assessment of his/herself.
Words of praise would be: "Great job on that assignment!" or "Congratulations, you got an A!”. Praise is often delivered with opinion words and given when your child performs in a way you that would have liked them to perform.
On the other hand, words of encouragement help children to become intrinsically motivated to excel. Encouragement should be delivered using descriptive words and given regardless of how your child performs. Some examples would be: "You really worked hard to make it a healthy habit to reading each night, you must be filled with pride to see all that you have accomplished," "It must feel so good to see how well you are doing after you spent so much time practicing your math facts," or "Look at your effort marks, I can tell you are really working hard to stay organized and focused, good for you!" If your child hasn't experienced success in an particular area and is feeling upset, you might say, "I can see you are disappointed, I know you will continue to try your best" or “I can see that didn't turn out the way you thought it would, what do you think you could do differently the next time?"
Don't forget, our PTA will be sponsoring a VIRTUAL Bingo event this evening! Bingo will start at 7:00 PM. This will be a fun-filled event for our school community! A huge thank you goes out to Shannon Diaz for planning this event.
Further, the Trumbull PTSA Council is sponsoring a virtual visit from children’s author Josh Funk on Thursday April 29th. Families may purchase books in advance of the visit and the author will sign the books to individual students. Orders must be placed by this Monday March 29th. If you have any questions or need assistance please contact Susan McKenna, Tashua Library Media Specialist at smckenns@trumbullps.org or 203-452-4438.

Again, I thank all of you for working with us to ensure the health and safety of our students during this pandemic. It is exciting to see our playground filled at the end of the day with families and friends spending time together. Please keep in mind, we still need to continue to follow the COVID-19 migration strategies of social distancing, mask wearing and washing hands, including after school hours and weekends. We also ask that you work with us to ensure our school grounds remain litter free. We have placed garbage receptacles outdoor with hopes that everyone uses them.
Further, to continue to ensure the safety of all, students who are not feeling well are strongly encouraged to stay home for the day and rest so they will hopefully feel better the next day. As always, students who are not feeling well, should not be attending school.
Finally, we thank you for your continued support and partnership in ensuring the success and happiness of our students. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions or good news to share.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Neumeyer
Principal
