The Quill 4-8-20
Creating Opportunities Together
A Thought or Two From Mr. Nieslanik
Grading, Reporting, and Next Steps
Do know that BSD is working hard to define the next steps of what grading and reporting looks like for the seniors and what the next steps are for senior activities. Do know that we are not canceling graduation. Graduation may be postponed, look different, or take a different form, but we WILL celebrate the Class of 2020. I will share this information as soon as it is defined.
We are also defining what grading and reporting looks like for ninth, tenth and eleventh grade students. Please do know that both BSD and I will communicate as soon as possible. I apologize I cannot get this information in your hands in this edition of the Quill, but I will share as soon as I have it! We are moving as fast as we can.
Tuesday Support Time
Every Tuesday we will have staff at SRHS from 12:00-2:00 to:
- Help with Chromebook Issues
- Access textbook, choice reading books, and school supplies from the building
- Hand out supplies to support home learning
- Provide food from the Hawks Nest
- Obtain items left in the locker room, in classrooms, and in lockers
We ask that everyone wear a mask and follow the posted instructions on appropriate social distancing.

Senior Graduation Order Pick-Up
As of today I have no idea what is happening with Graduation, I do know that we will celebrate somehow! But in the meantime, every senior needs graduation supplies. The Josten's Graduation Order is here, and the pick-up date for seniors is Friday, April 10th. The following points are important:
- Time: 1:00-2:00pm
- No need to get out of your vehicle
- Walk-ups are welcome, and we will have social distancing protocols put in place
- Orders need to be paid-in-full in advance. If you have not paid, payments can be made at 1-800-567-8367. (Cards and Cash accepted at delivery.)
- Families can pick up for other families, but we would love to see each and every senior! A note from the family who is not in attendance will need to be presented.
- If you cannot make it, you can pick up off-site at the regional Josten's office.
- If you need to order you can by visiting Jostens.com or calling 1-800-567-8367
Schedule for remainder of Year
Zoom Etiquette and Protocols
Please know that if students do not follow the expectations of being an engaged and thoughtful student I have given teachers the permission to turn off their volume, close their screen, and put them into a waiting room. We do not have time nor the ability to address non-educational behaviors. Thank you for understanding.
Also, starting this week, as we learn our ways with Zoom I am asking teachers to put the following safety measures in place.
- All students will enter the class period with their real (or preferred) first name and last name.
- Waiting rooms will be employeed and if a teacher does not know the student they will not be let into the zoom class or conversation.
- Passwords will be used, and after used the students will enter the class through a waiting room.
Parent Informational Zoom Meeting
I had planned to hold a Parent Q&A Zoom Meeting on Friday of this week, but with all of the new information being released on Wednesday about school closure I will need to give myself several more days to work with my peers in BSD to define next steps. I do know there will be many questions, and I just have no answers other than what the governor said on Wednesday. With this said, the Parent Zoom Informational Q&A will be on Monday, 4/13 from 10:00-10:30, and I can stay in the zoom meeting until 11:00am if necessary. The access information is below:
