LISD Special Education

A word from....Dr. Kathy Talbert, Executive Director

Dear Staff,

It’s hard to believe we are more than halfway through the year and quickly approaching Spring Break! During this busy time of year, let’s be sure to keep our focus on our passion for making a difference in the lives of our students and finish strong!

We are making progress in our Targeted Improvement Plan (TIP) activities for the Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS). Our goals include training teachers and principals on alignment of specially designed instruction and providing alternatives to disciplinary assignments (DAEP, ISS, OSS) for students with disabilities. We believe these activities are opportunities to improve our services and supports for students. I have already attended several discipline meetings to share information on the TIP activities, and my goal meet with all disciplines by the end of the month.

I truly appreciate all that you do for our students. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

We will have all the PLC groups at Purnell Support Center. Plan the presentations so that only one or two members will stay at the station and all of the others can tour the presentations. You may want to do a video or “elevator” speech that can be shared in 3-5 minutes and then take a minute or two to answer any questions. There will not be a set time schedule or set rotations to follow. You can also set times within your groups to change out so that everyone gets a chance to walk around and look at the presentations.
