Penny Wars
Next week Tuesday through Friday is the Horizon G9 Penny Drive (the one we originally had planned for Spirit Week). Each day your students will have the ability to compete for their grade level by putting coins into different bins. Each class will have a win, as well as the staff.
Penny's are considered positive, while coins and cash are considered negative. So each grade level can increase their class balance by putting pennies into their classes bin... BUT they can also sabotage another class or staff by putting silver/cash into another groups bin.
The winning class has the opportunity to vote for a staff "punishment" dress up day. Last year, we all had to dress like we were elderly... it was a hoot!
IF the staff wins, the students will have to "treat yo teacher." Pragmatically, the staff will not win. So, please hype this up to the kids. Here are some ideas for increasing the suspense: write a list of ways they could "treat yo teacher" on the board, mention your favorite treats in class, find a way to slip into conversation ways they could treat you. However, we all know that this will not happen.
The money collected from this drive will go to benefit the G9 (Go for Gold in September) foundation. This money will help kids in our district and beyond who are struggling with the effects of cancer
