"Set Sail on a Voyage of Learning!"

American Education Week

In 1921, the NEA Representative Assembly in Des Moines, Iowa, called for designation of one week each year to spotlight education. In its resolution, the NEA called for: "An educational week ... observed in all communities annually for the purpose of informing the public of the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secure the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs."

The National Education Association's 94th annual American Education Week—November 16-20, 2015—presents all Americans with an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education. Our AEW tagline, "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility," reflects NEA's vision of calling upon all Americans to do their part in making public schools great for every child so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century.

Thank you for all that you do to support, enrich, grow, mentor and love the students that you come in contact with every day. You are invaluable!!

Book Character Pumpkins

As part of our Literacy Night, students and parents will be able to view and vote for their favorite Book Character Pumpkin. If you did not sign up for your pumpkin character, please stop by my office. Please take your pumpkin character to the library as soon as you have it completed. We would like to have those that are finished on display when Dr. Mercer visits on Tuesday.

2015-2016 Canvas Requirements

D2s expectation is that all teachers in grades 3-12 will use Canvas for assignments next year (2016-2017). To prepare for that goal, we want to make sure every teacher has created at least two basic units inside Canvas: one this semester and one next semester.

Each unit should include the following:

  • An introduction
  • Three assignments
  • Discussion
  • Resource Page
  • Culminating Assessment

Additional explanations and instructions can be found at the following link ...

We will answer questions and provide assistance in creating your unit during Tuesday afternoon's PD. The more resources and ideas that you bring with you, the faster the creation process will go.

Free Flu Shots

Nurse Supervisor Jill Cooke reminds us that the flu shot is free this year for employees with State Insurance coverage, that the supply of doses is limited, and that the flu is already in our area. Employees planning to get vaccinated should do so as soon as possible for the vaccine to be effective before flu becomes widespread.
