Reader's Workshop

This week we learned more about the in's and out's of readers workshop. We discussed problem solving and what we do when we need help if the teacher isn't available. We also talked about the expectations we have when we get to share what we learned at the end of workshop time. We have made it to 24 minutes of reading on their own! Woohoo!!

Writer's Workshop

This week in writing we learned to write about topics that we love and care about. We talked about how published authors choose topics and how important it is to love what we are writing about. We also learned that there are many different ways to write. We can write wordless books, use labels, write sentences, and that it's even okay if you can't spell yet!

This week in math we learned new words to describe shapes, made patterns with our shape blocks, played a number matching game, and also continued with our calendar routines. Math is such a fun time for us because students really enjoy exploring numbers while using manipulative or playing games!

Sight Words

Please work with our student on the following words:

  • can
  • we
  • do
  • you

Along with sight words, it is always helpful to practice letter names and sounds :)

Supplies Needed

Families, in our next unit of math we will begin building numbers and adding with household materials. If you have any buttons, beans, or small pastas that you wouldn't mind donating please send them our way! Also, if you have any old magazines that you aren't reading anymore we would really appreciate having them for our magazine scavenger hunts. Your support and donations are always VERY much appreciated. Thank you for all of your help!!!
