Virtual Day of Instruction
This Tuesday, May 17th, East Fallowfield Elementary School will be used as a polling place for the primary election. Therefore, East Fallowfield Elementary School will have a virtual day of instruction and students should access their learning from home this day. Teachers will share their schedules and zoom links prior to this virtual day of instruction. I thank everyone for their flexibility and understanding.
Spring Concert Message
We are very excited to have concerts return to our East Fallowfield gym! This Wednesday, May 18th, band, orchestra, and chorus students will be performing their Spring Concert during the day for staff and students as well as at 7:00 pm for families.
A note just for band, chorus and orchestra students: Please remember to wear your concert black and white to school this day as well as bring their instruments, music and any other needed materials to school that day.
One School, One Book
Our School is taking part in a special, community-wide shared reading event. Every child has receive a copy of the same book, Frindle by Andrew Clements. We are personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity.
Along with the book, you have received a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home. Generally, you will be asked to read about 15 minutes each night.
Please find the link to our Week 3 trivia questions here: https://forms.gle/ycQrBzHaB4P5HAQF7.
Happy Reading!
Summer Reading Information
The district is excited to announce several summer reading initiatives including One District, One Book. Each elementary family will be given a copy of The BFG by Ronald Dahl. The book teaches acceptance and compassion, which in addition to a love for reading, are two traits we promote in the Coatesville Area School District.
More details on this initiative will be shared over the next few weeks including a reading schedule, info related to daily trivia questions, as well as special activities including a district-wide outdoor movie night in August.
The summer reading fun doesn’t stop there. The district is challenging every K-8 student to meet their weekly unit target on Lexia at least 6 times over the summer to help maintain and/or improve reading skills. Students that meet this challenge will receive a special reward when they return to school in the fall. For additional information, see the attached flyer.
Finally, the district is sponsoring a social media campaign, #CASDLovesToRead22. The district is asking its students to show off the books that they love all summer long. For additional information, see the flyer below.
Summer Reading Info For Students Entering Grades 6
The district is requiring all students entering grade 6 to complete a required summer reading assignment. Each student is being asked to read one book from their grade-specific list and complete a follow up activity (one-pager). The assignment will be graded.
The reading list aligns with the first thematic unit in 6th grade (Resilience in the Great Depression) to help build background knowledge and support comprehension. Students will be given the summer reading assignment in class during the week of 5/23. E-book and/or audio versions of several of the texts will be available for free via Mackin Library.
A hard copy of the assignment will be given to each student and will be posted to the district website (see Educational Services tab).
