LGBT+ Bullying

And why you should be aware of it

What is LGBT+ Bullying?

LGBT+ Bullying is when a person is targeted, picked on, or harassed by other people because of their orientation or identity. Usually more common in schools and at home.

Have you ever treated someone rudely because they were, ¨different¨? A lot of children are getting bullied from many people. However the ones who seem to suffer the worst is the LGBT+ community. On the website stopbullying.gov and CNN, it described that LGBT+ students are more likely to smoke, skip school, use drugs, e.t.c. It also describes them being twice as likely to be depressed and think about or attempt suicide. There are many reasons why people are abusing the LGBT+ community, whether it be them being different, beliefs, going with the crowd/peer pressure etc. However just because they are different, doesn't mean they should be treated negatively. We are all the same inside, and should treat everyone else with kindness. We could fix this by putting LGBT+ in bullying campaigns in schools. Or becoming nicer people and influencing other people to be kinder overall.

Positive Plan

However, if we try to stop and be nicer, the suicide and depression rates would go down. Less homeless youth, bullying e.c.t. Safer environment and friendlier people.

Negative Plan

Homeless youth will continue to grow, so will suicides, and kids getting kicked out or forced to run away. More people will follow in the negative behavior. Gay teens are 8.4 times more likely to report attempted suicide and 5.9 times more to report high level of depression compared to their peers who have little to no family rejection.
