Lenox Elementary Newsletter
Week of November 15th
Greetings Lenox Families/Saludos Familias Lenox
The end of the 1st quarter is here and we are so proud of how hard students have been working! Navigating the return to in person learning during these continued times of uncertainty has been inspiring. Thank you for your partnership along the way. We are grateful for all of you and look forward to a wonderful quarter ahead.
As we approach the winter season, Lenox Booster Club is hosting a toy drive in support of Hillsboro Elks Club. Please consider bringing and donating an unwrapped new toy to Lenox Elementary School on December 4th from 9-11am. When you arrive, use the bus driveway at the front of the school. A volunteer will be there to receive your donation from your car window or trunk.
This year the Elks Club of Hillsboro has asked us to try to fill the needs of children between 11-18 years old. Some ideas are (but not limited to) fleece blankets, nice toiletries, makeup, sports equipment, nail polish, cell phone chargers or solar cell phone chargers, and boogie board writing tablets. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you ever have a question, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher, the office or me. Communication and connection are key to our success!
In service to you,
Sarah Keller, Principal

News & Notes You Need to Know
Check out our PRIDE! Winners from our first assembly of the year! It was so much fun celebrating all of our students hard work and cheering on staff during Minute to Win It!
Recess Academy
We are so excited to be back in school and to have students enjoying the playground and the fields at recess! Students haven't been able to do that for 12+ months in the same way they did Pre-Covid. Because of this, students and staff have been spending time reviewing expectations for the playground, fields, and common recess areas. Ms. Coolman our Student Success Coach and Coach Carter our HSD Recess Coach have been working with students and staff around expectations, game rules, and supports to strengthen our students recess experience. Check out our recess academy slideshow HERE that has been shared with all K-6 students.
Conflict Management Lessons for Primary Students
Mrs. Jennings has been busy visiting all of our primary classrooms to teach and review Conflict Management Strategies that are a part of the Kelso's Choice Curriculum. Many counselors across HSD use these strategies as well. Within the core program, students are first taught to discriminate between “big” problems that must be shared with an adult, and “small” problems that they can resolve. After mastering this distinction, each of the nine skills are taught to the students. For example, specific strategies for “MAKE A DEAL” are taught and practiced, including how to flip a coin, how to pick a number from one to ten, how to compromise and make a trade-off, etc. Students may use that strategy when deciding who serves the ball first for a game. Students are encouraged to try two choices from “Kelso’s Choice Wheel.” If the “small” problem persists, they are told that adult support is needed. To learn more click HERE
Zones of Regulation/Mood Meter
Ms. Coolman our Student Success Coach and Mrs. Pruss our behavior specialist have been visiting classrooms teaching students and reviewing the Zones of Regulation (primary students) and Mood Meter (intermediate students). We believe that no feeling or emotion is bad. By understanding how to notice our body’s signals, detect triggers, read social context and consider how our behavior impacts those around us, students can develop their emotional control, sensory regulation, self-awareness, and problem-solving abilities. Our Mood Meter expands on the four zones to give our older students additional vocabulary in order to describe and/or name their current mood and energy level
