Character Words of the Month: Honesty/Integrity

This month we are lucky that we have two character words!

Honesty means telling the truth. When we are honest with someone, we do not hold back or try to change what really happened. We should always focus on telling the truth and not lying to others. Challenge yourself to be honest with others and yourself. Remember, like your parents always told you, it's better to tell the truth then to lie about it and get caught later.

Integrity means having good character and honor. When we are truthful with ourselves and others, we have good integrity. When we do something that is not right or might hurt how others view us, we are not having good integrity. I'm often reminded of the story about the boy who cried "wolf." He was a shepherd who lied to his townspeople about seeing a wolf. After a few times of lying, the townspeople started to not believe him. Then, when there really was a wolf, the people did not believe him and all of his sheep were killed by the wolf. He was not honest nor did he have good integrity with the townspeople.

Take time this month to discuss with your child(ren) about the importance of telling the truth. It says a lot about people who are honest and do what is right.
