August/September Counselor's Corner
at Elizabeth Vaughan Elementary School
Overview of Lessons
School Counseling Tool Box (Role of the School Counselor)
- Lock: what students say to us, stays locked up in our heads, unless they say they are going to hurt themselves, they are going to hurt someone else, or someone is hurting them. Then we have to open that lock and work together with other adults to keep them or someone else safe.
- Star: We believe each student is a super star and we help them make sure they are being their best selves.
- Heart: We care about each and every student at school.
- Hulk Hand: We help calm students down when they're angry.
- Tissues: We help students when they are sad.
- Candy bar: It's a treat to come see the counselors. Students are not in trouble when they come to see us.
- Head phones: Counselor's are good listeners.
- Magic Wand: We help students accomplish their goals and wishes.
- Eraser: We help students fix and learn from their mistakes.
- Smiley Face: We help to make sure students are happy while they are at school.
How to See the School Counselor
2. Write us a note
3. Ask us in person
4. Fill out an online form (2nd-5th Grade Only)
This year we introduced an online form that students can fill out.
Classroom Guidance Expectations
1. Follow Directions
2. Raise Your Hand
3. Participate
4. Stay Focused/On Task
5. Be Kind
We went over what each expectation looks like. For each expectation the class completes that lesson, they earn a marble. Each grade level is working together to fill a jar to the top with marbles. When a grade level fills the jar, each class gets to vote on a reward for their next guidance lesson. So far each grade level is neck and neck!
