HALLOWEEN COSTUME GUIDELINES FOR BAY VIEW
We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As Halloween approaches, we would like to take a moment to remind everyone of our school's guidelines regarding costumes for the upcoming festivities.
Our goal is to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students. To achieve this, we ask for your cooperation in helping your child choose a Halloween costume that is appropriate for a middle school setting. Please consider the following points:
Avoiding Offensive or Inappropriate Themes: Costumes should not depict or make light of any cultural, racial, or religious groups. This includes avoiding costumes that stereotype or caricature any specific ethnicity or belief system.
Modesty and Decency: Costumes should be modest and not overly revealing. We ask that students refrain from wearing costumes that may be considered too mature or explicit for their age group.
Weapons and Props: Any accessories or props that accompany a costume must be safe, non-threatening, and non-functional. Toy weapons should be clearly recognizable as toys and should not resemble real weapons in any way.
Sensitivity to Fears and Phobias: Please be mindful of any costumes that might be particularly frightening or triggering to some students. We encourage creativity without causing undue distress.
Encouraging Creativity and Individuality: We encourage students to choose costumes that reflect their interests, hobbies, or characters from literature, history, or popular culture that inspire them.
Respecting School Values: Costumes should align with our school's values of respect, kindness, and inclusivity. Please remind your child to be considerate of their peers' feelings and perspectives.
We trust that you will take the time to discuss these guidelines with your child to ensure a positive and enjoyable Halloween experience for all. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and respectful school environment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you for your continued support.

Bay View Literacy News!
- Academic Success: Reading helps improve vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. By regularly engaging with books, middle schoolers can enhance their academic performance across all subjects. Reading exposes them to new ideas, expands their knowledge, and helps them become better writers.
- Language Development: Reading exposes middle schoolers to a wide range of words, sentence structures, and writing styles. This exposure helps them develop a rich vocabulary and improves their language skills. The more they read, the more they understand how language works, leading to better communication skills.
- Cognitive Development: Reading stimulates the brain and enhances cognitive abilities. It improves memory, concentration, and analytical thinking. Middle schoolers who read regularly tend to have better problem-solving skills and are more adept at critical analysis.
How do I get my child to read more? Watch for tips in the next issue of the Bay View Newsletter.

The Giving Tree
STUDENT PICK-UP PROTOCOL
If you are picking a student up during the school day, you must come into the main office and sign the student out with your Driver's License. If someone other than you or your emergency contacts is picking up your student, please contact the office to let them know who is picking your student up. Students are not allowed to leave during school hours via bike or walking without prior approval from the main office and Principal.
HEALTH ROOM PROTOCOL
If your student is not feeling well, they need to follow protocol and come to the health room to report their illness prior to contacting home. Students should not be using their iPad to email a parent or texting a parent to pick them up. This will eliminate the spread of illnesses to other students and will make the office aware of students being picked up prior to parent arrival.
SCHOOL CLOSINGS AND DELAYS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
In addition to District Social Media, local TV/Radio stations and the District Website, HSSD will also send weather-related delays and cancellations via text message.
