Bristow Run ES Panther Press

December 2020

Dear Panther Families,

We hope this newsletter finds all our families doing well! Second Quarter has been moving right along, with our in-person Kindergarteners and First Graders returning to the building. We absolutely love having the additional staff and students back. BRES has been buzzing with new learning, fun and excitement! It’s a joy to see the kids so happy to be in the building.

Mrs. Ball and I want to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your ongoing flexibility and patience with navigating all the transitions with your child’s learning. We also greatly appreciate the support you have given to our amazing staff. They have shown such dedication to planning and implementing quality instruction virtually and now concurrently as our grade levels phase in. While there have been challenges along the way, our BRES family is working harder than ever before to ensure our students are happy and learning. Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we continue to navigate this school year.

Communication with our families continues to be a top priority and we would like to let you know that the week of January 4 all parents will be able to amend their choice of virtual or in person learning for 3rd quarter. Please take time to complete the survey if you’d like to change your current 2nd quarter plan. We depend on this information to guide us as we prepare to open more classrooms and welcome additional students to the building. Please also be on the lookout for official communication coming from the division announcing other possible changes to 3rd quarter schedules and bell times. We remain committed to providing timely updates and welcoming all students back to a safe and healthy environment.

We wish all our families a wonderful and healthy Winter Break and look forward to seeing the smiling faces of more students throughout January as our remaining grade levels phase in.

Your proud principals,

Mrs. Jeck and Mrs. Ball

If your child becomes sick at school with any Covid-19 and/or influenza-like symptoms, that cannot be attributed to another known diagnosis, you will be asked to pick your child up.

It is extremely important to review and complete your child’s emergency card this year. Please be sure all phone numbers are accurate and up to date. Notify the school immediately should your contact information change.

PE News from Mrs. Francis & Mr. Nenni

November was a great month in PE! The students practiced a few new fall dance routines, made their own “PE Turkeys,” and learned some fun fall jokes.

As we enter December, we are looking forward to celebrating the cold winter months. We have several activities and videos planned that focus on cold weather sports and activities. We are excited to see our students perform them for us virtually and in person. Be sure to get out and enjoy the mild weather days when you can and try to get in your 60 minutes of exercise each day.

Please contact Mrs. Francis and Mr. Nenni by email with any questions.

Have a healthy day!

Updates from Mrs. Leischner & Mrs. MacWhorter

In December in School Counseling class students are learning about No Place for Hate and are given the opportunity to virtually sign the No Place for Hate Promise. The No Place for Hate Organization is part of the Anti Defamation League. No Place for Hate seeks to encourage kindness and inclusion. We have been a "No Place for Hate" school since 2018.

The No Place for Hate Promise of Respect is:

  • I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly
  • I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone - even if they are not like me
  • If I see someone being hurt or bullied I will report it to an adult
  • Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy at school
  • I want our school to be No Place for Hate®

Technology News from Mr. Painter

Greetings panthers and panther parents! We've been hard at work training on how to work with you through concurrent learning, refining our skills, and thinking up neat things to do to help you learn. We are learning how to use high-quality cameras and video conferencing equipment that the County has provided us. We hope that this gives you a more realistic virtual environment. We’re also learning to use high-quality wireless headsets so that we can speak to you while working with students in the classroom. Teachers are meeting with the IT department to set up their classrooms in a way that is easy to use and accommodates your teachers’ style of teaching. Remember to keep that positive attitude and we will see you soon.
