One student from each class was chosen as the student who has been the best role model for the character trait of Perseverance. The recognition ceremony was held on November 21. The students received their certificates and medals and were joined by their families for the celebration. The character trait for the month of December is Generosity.
Gifts to School Employees
As we move into the holiday season, we realize that many parents and students will want to give gifts to staff members. We are all thankful for the generosity of our community. There are some rules governed, in part, by state law related to what school employees may accept. If you choose to give a gift to a school employee, please keep these things in mind.
- The gift may not be intended to influence the teacher to pass the student of give the student some other kind of preferential treatment.
- State law prohibits public employees from accepting gifts if the gift is valued at over $50 and is not cash or some other negotiable instrument. Therefore, no gift from a student to a teacher should be valued at more than $50. A gift card in an amount larger than $50 is acceptable so long as no individual student contributed more than $50 toward the gift card. Local Board Policy DBD states, "An employee shall not accept or solicit any gift, favor, service or any other benefit that could reasonably be construed to influence the employee's discharge of assigned duties and responsibilities."
First grade continued their Kelso lessons and learned the first five conflict resolution skills on Kelso’s Wheel. They had a lot of fun role playing and modeling the various skills. Ask them to share with you the skills they have learned so far.
Our 3rd and 4th graders also reviewed Kelso’s conflict management choices and were encouraged to develop their problem-solving skills by trying two choices before asking an adult for help. Click the link below for more information on Kelso.

Second graders had their first “Why Try” lesson. In our lesson, we learned about “The Reality Ride” roller coaster with it’s two tracks - “harder but worth it” and “easy-fast”. Students discovered that the “harder but worth it tract” can lead them to more opportunity, freedom and self-respect.
