Dare to Dream!
Empowering World Class Leaders and Life-Long Learners!
Hooray!
Of course, several of our students (& staff) thought today was "FREEZING!"
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our PTA "Stuff the Boots" fundraiser ensuring that we met our goal, and thanks to PTA for Kona Ice on Friday!
We had some 1st Grade readers enjoying our Outside Learning Area last week. Looking for more of this with the change in temperatures! #SommerEmpowers

Parent Conferences
In the spirit of Empowering World-Class Leaders and Life-Long Learners, our 3rd-5th grades will be conducting student-led conferences. Time will be scheduled for you to visit with your children first as well as have time to ask questions and hear from the teachers.
The goals for our students include: Assuming responsibility for discussing their progress both academically and behaviorally Learning to communicate effectively and professionally Learning to assess their own work Being accountable for their work and behavior Setting personal goals
This conference is an opportunity for you as a parent to continue to demonstrate a positive interest in your child’s progress, hear your child’s evaluation of his/her accomplishments, and support your child with words of encouragement and positive feedback for his/her school work.
RRISD has set the date as Monday, Oct. 14 in order to be consistent across the district. We will also be scheduling conferences during the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 15. Please note that because of the format of our conferences being student-led, it is extremely important that you schedule time during one of these two days. Teachers are sending out the sign-ups this week so that you can plan accordingly.
We truly appreciate your support in allowing us to take ownership in their learning by applying real-world skills to present their learning to you.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your teachers or Nancy Varljen at 512-704-0600.

Parent Referral Information Night for TAG Testing-Nov. 4
This meeting will cover information about our gifted program in RRISD and how we provide services at Sommer. We will cover the testing process, the timeline and steps parents need to take to refer their child for testing. For parents unable to attend, the presentation and timeline will be added to our TAG Team Website afterwards. It is not necessary to contact TAG teachers directly before referring a student.
From the Library: Coins for Coats
Coins for Coats is an opportunity for students to help other students obtain a coat for the winter through Keep Round Rock Warm, a coat distribution project of the Round Rock Area Serving Center.
The Keep Round Rock Warm project provides a coat to the children in the RRISD who are on the free and reduced lunch program.
We will be collecting funds from October 16th through the 18th. Students are encouraged to bring their spare change and dollar bills to their teachers during those days. Checks can be made out to RRASC: Keep Round Rock Warm.
The K-2 class and 3-5 class with the highest donations will receive 5 books for their classroom libraries from the Sommer Library Activity fund.
