Project Learning Showcase
We have a new display area in the library! This zone is dedicated to student projects. In October, we displayed Mrs. Marshall's 2nd grade class "Ecosystem Project". Students learned where to locate animal non-fiction books in the library. They chose their perfect animal to research and created the animal's ecosystem. Students from all grade levels enjoyed viewing these projects, and learning ecosystems from other students.
What Are We Reading?
What Are We Learning?
They are also practicing responding to literature. We read Whoever You Are by Mem Fox, and investigated other homes around the world by reading a non-fiction eBook on myON.com. Students responded to the literature by completing a journal entry illustrating their home. We compared our homes to those around the world.
Our 2nd-5th grade students were focused on fiction/non-fiction connections. Students read books that were set in Australia, written by Mem Fox. After reading Koala Lou and Possum Magic, students completed a project on myON.com. Students read non-fiction books about Australia, and used tools to highlight and stop and jot their books using interactive tools.

Global Read Aloud
- Koala Lou- We learned about Australian animals, and completed a Deck-Toy where students had to use information they learned from the book and information about Australian animals to complete puzzles. Each puzzle unlocked the next puzzle. Students were challenged on this one!
- Possum Magic- We learned about some Australian foods and places. We took a Google Lit Map virtual trip around the coast of Australia. Ask your kids about pavlova from Perth! It looks delicious.
- Hattie and the Fox- We used some theatrics to read Hattie and the Fox. Thankfully, the cow saved the day. After reading this tale, students completed a myON.com project. 2-3 grade students read various farm animal books on myON and 4-5 grade read a books about chickens and the fox and completed Knowledge Maps on each animal.
