World Book Day - Thursday 2nd March

World Book Day is fast approaching and here at Saxton, we would like to celebrate it in style! By wearing our pyjamas!

Cosy is the theme for this year so children and staff can come to school in pyjamas! If they would like to bring a small cushion, a blanket or a cuddly toy to snuggle up with for their reading session that day, they are welcome to do so!

We will be sharing stories and poems throughout the day to remind us of the importance of reading and how it can be good for our mental health. The whole school will be sharing a picture book called ‘The Barnabus Project’, which has themes around acceptance, tolerance, teamwork and perseverance. It is a wonderful book and we look forward to sharing our work linked to this book on social media platforms.

As children have PE that day (and some children in KS2 are attending a netball tournament) they will need to bring their PE kit in a bag and get changed at school.

Welcome Mrs Brown

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Brown. She has joined us as Head of School.

Thank you for your warm welcome this week; the children, staff and parents have made me feel at home straight away. I thought I would share with you a little of my background.

I have been in Primary education for over 25 years and my last post was as head teacher of

Baldersby St James C of E Primary School. I live just North of York with my husband,

daughter and 2 Hungarian Vizsla dogs. I am very familiar with the local area surrounding

Saxton as my parents used to live in Barkston Ash. My husband and I were married in the

lovely tiny Barkston Ash Church - all after a first date in the Ash Tree pub! We have two

children who are now fully through the education system, one has ‘flown the nest’ and is a

policeman and the other is an ecologist – very divergent career choices!

I am a very keen gardener, enthusiastic cook and enjoy exploring the outdoors in our

campervan. I am very much looking forward to working with the children, staff and families

over the coming months.

Welcome Mrs Plant

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Plant to Saxton as a Teaching Assistant, working mainly with Sycamore.

Mrs G-C

Congratulations to Miss Holgate who got married over half term, and is now Mrs Garland-Collins (Mrs G-C for short!)

The Sustrans Big Walk & Wheel takes place from 20 – 31st March. During this time, the Eco Warriors are encouraging all children to walk, cycle or scoot at least some of the way to school. We will count the number of journeys done this way each day and enter these into the national competition.

Church Needs Bell Ringers

The Kings Coronation takes place on 6th May and all the church bells throughout the land will ring out in celebration. It will be a memorable occasion, but only if there are enough people to ring the bells. One of those could be you. The only requirements at Tadcaster are that you can climb 24 steps, raise your hands straight above your head and count to 8.

If you are interested in finding out how to ring the Church bells and would like to try, come along and give it a go. Contact Sue on 07422331313

School Lunches

Next week we will be on Week 2 of the Spring 2023 lunches menu.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.
