Weekly Update

Mrs. Wenberg's 4th Grade Class

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

Summer tends be full of fun and freedom! As you get back into your normal routines of homework, bedtimes, etc. please take a moment to remind your fourth grader of the importance of staying focused during work time and being respectful listeners while others are talking. We have been discussing responsible decision making in Health, but chattiness has been contagious throughout 4th grade this week. We appreciate your support with a little reminder at home!!

Some of this week's highlights include:

  • Becoming geologists as we observe and break down Mock Rocks.
  • Learning to add and subtract big numbers
  • Small group and partner reading work
  • Finally being able to download apps on our iPads!
  • Our read aloud book Fig Pudding
  • Using a Flow Map to retell a story using only important details

What we've been up to...

Digtal Days

Just a reminder, our specialist schedules run on a "Digital Day" format. Right now, because we started school on a Tuesday, Digital Day 1 falls on Tuesday. As we have days off from school, the day of the week for each digital day will change. Our digital day schedule is:

Day 1: Spanish

Day 2: PE/Music

Day 3: Art

Day 4: Music/PE/Library

Day 5: Technology

I have changed the look of my homework calendar to make it easier to see the homework and digital days. Check it out! http://www.wayzata.k12.mn.us/Page/16163

  • Writing Narrative Stories
  • Continuing to work on classroom procedures and expectations

Cogat Testing

As part of the district wide identification process for Vision 21 services, Wayzata Schools will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all 2nd and 4th graders between September 16 and October 23. Students in 3rd and 5th grade who are new to the district will also be given the CogAT during this time. Please make every effort to have your child attend school during the testing days.

Results from the CogAT tests will be used as one of the multiple information sources to identify students who will most likely benefit from the Vision 21/Gifted and Talented program. Student identification will be finalized and parents will have access to their child's results through Skyward Family Access by December 2.

For more information on the CogAT tests, click here

Conference Scheduling through Family Access

Please note that the site will shut down on Sunday, October 4 at 10:00 pm. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please do so before this time.

You must be signed up with Family Access BEFORE you can schedule your conference time. If you have not signed up, you must first click on "Forgot Your Login/Password". Now submit your email address to request your log in information.

Please take the time to follow these important procedures. Family Access is the link to connect you with ALL important information regarding your student and their school. If you have further questions, please contact the Family Access Help Desk at 763-745-6014.

Akeelah and the Bee

Wednesday, Sep. 30th, 9:30am

2400 3rd Avenue South

Minneapolis, MN

We are thrilled to be heading on our first field trip to the Children's Theatre production of Akeelah and the Bee on September 30th. Remember to bring a bag lunch. The show starts at 10:30, so volunteers should meet there by then!

Book Orders

Book orders are on their way and should arrive within the next week or two.

Homework Binders

Binders should come home nightly with the homework written down. Students are expected to complete homework nightly. Assignments not turned in by Friday will cause students to miss "Friday Fun". This is a fun activity, often times recess, that helps encourage 4th graders to complete work on time.

If for some reason homework is not written in the binder, you can find nightly assignments in PINK on my web page: http://wayzata.k12.mn.us/Page/16163
