What's "Growing" On @ Cannon?

Staff Information & Updates 05/02/16

From the Principal's Pen...

You once had a choice,
And you chose to teach.
And every day
It's our Cubs you reach!

You make the difference
In the lives of each child.
Those that are quiet
And those that are wild!

You do it so well,

So seamlessly it appears.

Your intentions are true,

and your talents, revered.

You teach from your heart,
That's plain to see.

You give more than you can

And inspire effortlessly.

Please never forget,
And oh, it's so true.
Our children all need
Great teachers & staff like you!

Happy Staff Appreciation Week!!

Proud to be your principal,

Tona :)

I wanted to take a moment to remind you that your hard work in the lives of our scholars DOES MATTER. Parents do appreciate everything you do, even if they don't tell you! End of the year assessment window opens up on May 2nd. We will be adding our writing assessments to the blue literacy folders stored in Brenda Milum's room. If you have any questions, please email me.

LAST WEEK: A PHOTO REVIEW

WELCOME TO NEW STAFF MEMBER - 2016-2017

We are so excited to announce that Jennifer Pettit will be joining our Cannon team next year as a Kindergarten teacher!

While Jennifer may be new to Cannon, she is not new to GCISD. She has worked at the district's ECDC (Early Childhood Development Center) teaching Pre-Kindergarten for several years. She is currently finishing her student teaching in Birdville ISD and will graduate from SFA very soon! Jennifer lives in Grapevine and has children who attend school in GCISD.

Jennifer is so excited about teaching at Cannon and being part of our STEM program. She has been interested in STEM-based instruction for a long time and loved incorporating STEM projects & PBL's in her classes at the ECDC with her Pre-Kindergarten students. During her time there, she maintained a great blog that showcased the STEM learning that was being done in her classroom. Check out her blog to see some of the ways she brought STEM to her young scholars!

Jennifer is going to be an amazing addition to our Cannon staff! She will be here on Tuesday night, at our Kindergarten Meet & Greet, so if you happen to see her on campus, be sure to give her a BIG Cannon welcome!

  • LAND DESK REMINDER Don't forget to schedule a time with David, so that he can put the Land Desk software on your computers before the end of the school year. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to do this. Either email or stop by David's office to schedule a time to get this done. It must be completed before the end of the school year. Thank you!

  • REAL SCHOOL GARDEN SURVEY - As you may recall, when we started our partnership with REAL School Gardens earlier this year, we were asked to participate in a pre-survey regarding our use/knowledge of utilizing the garden at Cannon. Please take a moment to complete this brief post-survey for RSG. As a partner school to RSG, this data is very important to their efforts, as well as to provide important feedback for our campus efforts on how to best utilize the garden. When selecting our school, Cannon is listed near the bottom of the list. Please complete this survey by Friday, May 6th. Jeans passes will be provided for all if we have a 100% participation!! Thank you!

  • PARENT HB SURVEY Our school families will receive information in this week's Principal's newsletter about the parent survey for House Bill 5. HB5 requires school districts to conduct a community or parent engagement survey and report results to the TEA. Please help communicate this information to parents. The information letter and link in English can be found here. Click here to see this information in Spanish. Thanks for your help!!
