Reading Success !!

Every student in our school, kindergarten-4th grade, is expected to read for a period of 20 minutes nightly. The research shows that reading 15 minutes-30 minutes each night will help your child be a more proficient reader and will be much more successful in school. This is so very important that we are asking parents to sign their child's reading logs each week. Educating your child is one of the most important jobs we have and we must collaborate on this in order to make the most gains. We can not do this huge job without your continued help and support.

Third Grade IREAD- 3

IREAD-3 is a test that is required by state law. This test measures reading skill of third grade students. Students who do not pass IREAD-3 in the spring will have an opportunity for remediation and are able to retest after the end of school. It is very important that your child spend time reading each evening in order for them to be best prepared for this upcoming March 2019 test.

Students who do not pass the spring and summer administrations of IREAD-3 will continue to receive instruction in Grade 3 reading, will officially be reported as a third grader, and will fully participate in the Grade 3 ILEARNassessment. There are some exemptions to this law. If you would like to know more about IREAD-3, please visit the Indiana Department of Education website:

Edgelea Needs Kids Clothing Donations

We are going through kids clothing and winter gear rapidly. We are still in need of donations of winter coats, mittens, boys and girls jeans and sweat pants.

If your children are in need of a winter coat, please notify our front office and we will get them taken care of!

Outdoor Recess Guidelines

Outdoor recess periods will be observed each day unless the temperature or windchill drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit or in inclement weather. We do go outdoors if it is snowing and the temperature is 20 or above. Please make sure your children are prepared for the weather by wearing appropriate clothing, boots, hats, and gloves. We know this time of year can be a financial stain on families. If your child needs a new hat or gloves, we have extras in our office. Just let Deb Davidson, school secretary know and she will take care of it. If your child has outgrown coats, boots, or winter clothing, we will gladly pass it on to other children in need.
