A Note from Me
What an good week! The last thing one of you said to me before I left for Spring Break was, "Read something for fun!" So, I did. I hope you did too.
I also went to North Carolina. As I do when I go to NC, I spent quality time with my mom. I know that our time is probably somewhat limited. Even though my mom still works hard, has big plans for the spring, still lives on her own, drives a car, and bakes amazing cakes, she will be 83 at the end of the month.
Because of the relationship that I have with my mom and the rest of my NC family as well as the relationship I have with my TEXAS family, my Texas family understands why I needed to go. It is important to nurture your relationships.
Speaking of maintaining relationships, some students have relationships with previous teachers or enrichment teachers that need to be maintained. Encourage your students to find ways to keep in touch. As short as the week was, I wrote a letter to one daughter who had a birthday while I was away. I talked with the TEXAS fam most days. It can make all the difference in the world when we take the time to really connect with the important people in our lives. Sometimes it's necessary to hear how special you are but sometimes it's important to be the one saying, "You're special."
As we return to the school schedule and the challenge of this time of year, remember that we have challenges that will push us to greater heights. We have implemented a new and targeted improvement plan. We have new Lead Measures we will begin charting this week. We have new BAS data.
What will we do with this new info? We will be working our plan beginning first thing in the morning. We will start another fresh week with a refreshed attitude and fresh students. Let's do ALL that we can do to make this the best 6-weeks yet. This is a great time to update grades (remember that kids need to see a way to salvation if they've failed in the past), reconnect with parents, and do what we have said we would do. This is our time!
I really look forward to seeing EVERYONE tomorrow. You ALL were surely missed!
Thanks, Joy
I challenge you this week to...

A Message from the District
RTI and Proper Intervention Requirements:
RTI and proper intervention requirements were included as part of the Office of Special Education Program's Monitoring Report for the state of Texas. The findings stated that we must follow the 85th Legislature Senate Bill 1153 to improve outcomes for struggling learners. We are required by law to provide parents with written RTI notice containing the following:
A reasonable description of the assistance that may be provided to the child, including any intervention strategies that may be used;
Information collected regarding any interventions in the base tier of a multi-tiered system of supports that has previously been used with the child;
An estimate of the duration for which the assistance, including through the use of intervention strategies, will be provided;
The estimated time frames within which a report on the child's progress with the assistance, including any intervention strategies used, will be provided to the parent; and
Information about the parent's right to request, among other things, a special education evaluation at any time
The notice must be written in English or, to the extent practicable, the parent's native language.
In order for us to ensure BISD uniformity in our system of support; everyone must use the BISD forms. The updated forms will be ready to use by the end of the month. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Also, make sure to get money and permission slips collected for Wednesday's field trip. Consider allowing your students to take a book to read on the trip.
Don't forget your lunch!!
Make sure you tell your students and parents that a parent must sign the coloring sheet from the bank to be counted toward winning the participation prize. You may want to get them collected by Thursday so there's time to contact those who forget to sign. Thanks
