Mr. Mauck's Musings
This week was incredible. Jasper High School was thrilled to present three students as National Merit Commended Scholars. Reagan Fortwendel, Nathaniel Ramirez, and Allanah Nichols are three of the 34,000 students nationally that qualified as Commended Scholars. Their PSAT scores ranked them in the top 50,000 students in America.
Honor the past, Prepare for the Future, Participate now; is the new official motto for Jasper High School. The faculty decided that this motto best expressed the mission of the high school. We also introduced Theme Song Thursdays with a call-in contest to guess the TV theme song played on the intercom. Thanks to Mrs. Gina Schuetter for the creation of this contest.
On Tuesday, September 27th, twenty students and two faculty members from Staufen Gymnasium in Pfaffenweiler will be arriving in Jasper. They will be attending school and participating in activities in Jasper until the 12th of October. We are excited about the exchange opportunities that are available to the two communities. Homecoming was a huge success and the Student Council did an amazing job in preparations for the spirit week and homecoming festivities. Please take a minute to look at all the pictures. Today's dress-up day was soccer mom vs. BBQ dad. Congratulations to the Senior class on the commanding lead in spirit points and to the Juniors for winning the backdrop contest. Please note the Prom fundraising opportunity for our prom attendees.
Your child's school picture gallery expires on Monday, Sept 26th for JHS, so don't wait for another second to view and order your child's school pictures online! If you are turning in the proof packet to the school by Monday you are good to go! Picture retakes will be on October 6th from 7:30 until 1:30.
A procedural note for parents and students. If your student feels sick at school they need to get permission from their teacher and see the school nurse. The nurse will evaluate the student and contact the parents if the student needs to go home. Students are not to call their parents to come and pick them up from school without seeing the nurse first. Failure to follow this policy may lead to discipline.
Congratulations to the JHS Boy's Tennis team on wrapping up a SIAC conference championship. They will battle this weekend with three top 15 teams. The Marching Wildcats are in action on Saturday in Avon at 6 pm against some great competition. They will be back in Indy on the 1st at Ben Davis at 8 pm and then home on the 8th at 7:35 for our invitational. ISSMA Regionals will be on October 15th at Evansville Central at 6:45. Our band has worked extremely hard and has a wonderful performance.
The FFA participated in the Livestock-a-thon competition and placed well. The Team consisting of Grace Kluemper, Cheyenne Scherle, Jackson Beier, and Mitchel Harris took home 1st place. Taking home 2nd place was the team consisting of Maddie Heim, Claire Linette, Emma Popp, and Cali Beier. Team members also placed well individually, Emma Popp placed 7th. Individually, Claire Linette placed 4th, Maddie Heim 3rd Cheyenne Scherle 2nd, and Grace Kluemper 1st. Great job to all our future farmers.
Finally, the SOFA Club (art) and the Young Latinos Unidos Club will be taking a joint field trip to the Theyn- Clark Cultural Center to see artist Fernando Lozano. His work celebrates Hispanic culture in America. Our community is fortunate to have such a strong arts program to allow our students to experience a multitude of cultural opportunities.

JHS Student Council would like to thank some of our sponsors and supporters of our Football Homecoming. This week we are sending a special thanks to Jasper Flowers & Gifts, The Produce Patch, Curve Radio and Mr. Elrod, JoAnn Fabrics, and Cynthia Norris.
Congratulations also to the Juniors on winning the class display boards for football homecoming. Their theme was New York
After Football Homecoming week the Seniors have a commanding lead over the 2nd place Sophomores in our Spirit Point Race. As you can see they also have more tape on their spirit stick. They won the food eating, scavenger hunt, hallway decorating, and two different quizizz games to build that lead. The juniors did take the class display board top prize but didn't acquire many points on our dress up days. They have landed themselves in 3rd place just slightly ahead of the freshmen. The freshmen have made a good showing for our first big spirit event. Our fall pep session will take place on Oct 14 and all classes will have a chance to improve their scores.
