Veteran's Day Assembly - Thank you to all of those who serve our country!
On November 14th, Muir students and staff came together to honor those who are currently serving and all of those who have served our great country in our annual Veteran's day assembly. It was a morning full of donuts, coffee, stories of heroism and smiles through conversation that made this memorable assembly one for the history books each year. Our choir, led by Ms. Gallagher did a fantastic job starting off the presentation with the singing of our National Anthem. The color guard of Local showed and finally to honor those who are no longer with us, Taps was beautifully played by Riley Carlson and Carly Willard.
Red and White Band Show Off Their Talent!
Our Red and White Bands performed on November 10th to a full house at Muir MS! After preparing for an October marching band event, they did an outstanding job also preparing for our Fall Concert! Each group performed 3 pieces and received a standing ovation at the end of the concert! Great job to both groups! Also, special recognition goes to 3 kids who auditioned for All-State Band. Daniel Beach for Trombone, Sam Green for Trombone, and Carter Swarthout for Tuba. Carter was given the rank of honorable mention.
The next performance is our 8th Grade Band Day event at Milford HS CPA on January 31, 2023, with the MHS Bands and then following in March with our March Musical Madness concert with Red and White Bands again on Tuesday, March 7th at MHS CPA. Please come out and support the many exciting opportunities of the Muir Band!
FTC Robotics
Congratulations to our FTC Robotics Team! Our Colts were part of a winning alliance on Saturday, December 10th earning them an initiation to the State Championship in Grand Rapids for the weekend of December 16th.
During the State Championship, our Colts won 5 out of the 6 categories and placed 8th among 38 other teams from around the State!
Awesome job, Colts!
Latitude and Longitude Comes Alive in Social Studies!
In Ms. Lozon's 6th grade geography class, students used oranges (generously donated by parents) to reinforce the learning of major lines of latitude and longitude, as well as the creation of hemispheres. After creating their worlds, students peeled carefully and attempted to turn their globes into a flat map, resulting in stretching and distortion in distances. Students enjoyed learning about geography while snacking on their hemispheres.
Boys Basketball Season!
Congratulations to our Boys Basketball teams on their 2022 season! The 7th grade team finished with a record of 8-2, which was 3rd in the league. The 7th grade team went to the playoff round and lost to Mason at their game on Tuesday, December 19th.
8th grade Colts finished with a record of 2-8 while continuing to compete and improve every step of the way. Coach Howe stated that "He is hoping for all of the boys to continue working hard on improving their game and hopefully they will continue to improve in preparation for their basketball future in high school. I would like to thank the boys and their families for a fun season!"
Way to go Colts!
Muir Quiz Bowl Competition!
On Monday, December 5th, Muir's Quiz Bowl team competed against Hartland and Howell in their annual Tri-Quiz Bowl cup Tournament. Muir Team 1 fought valiantly (losing by just one question), while Muir Team 2 was able to clinch both wins against their competitors. Great job to everyone and Go Colts!
Science Classrooms Come to Life!
Ms. Sanborn's 8th grade science classes worked on building plate boundaries using graham crackers and frosting to model the movement of tectonic plates! In 7th grade, students worked on modeling the pathway a nerve impulse travels using pipe cleaner neurons!
6th Grade Career Day was a HUGE Success!
On Friday, December 15th, our 6th grade students were able to interact with several members of our community during our annual career day activity! Students could choose between 19 different guest speakers to explore careers that they might be interested in. Presenters discussed their careers, the level of education or training that is required, and answer questions that students might have. Presenters included a lawyer, a nurse, a professional sport player (MLB), small business owners, and many more! A big shout out to everyone who donated their time to make this a fun and exciting event for our students!
Kindness at Muir!
Muir students, their families, and the staff have been hard at work showing kindness and gratitude during this holiday season. Whether it is our Student Council anonymously buying gifts for our Holiday Adopt a Family program, secret Santa's (Mrs. Dunleavy's SFS class) spreading cheer to our staff members, or Ms. Doggett's WEB leaders inviting random students to join them in special activities during their Golden Ticket Fridays - we are so proud of our Colts and their enormous generosity this holiday season!
