Volume 2, Issue 11 - October 26, 2018
Dear Families,
“About 7,800 people begin using illicit drugs every day, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and more than half are under the age of 18.” This is the opening line of the US News & World Report article in the following link. This article includes information on the importance of talking to your teenagers early about drug prevention, podcasts and videos, online resources, and links to finding resources for treatment providers. Additionally, a link to the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens website provides information on drug facts, tools for helping parents talk to their children about drug use, as well as links to other helpful resources.
Our students and teachers have been celebrating Red Ribbon Week, showing their support for a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. If you have questions or need help having this conversation at home, feel free to reach out to our Outreach Counselor Erin Maynard (EMaynard@cpsk12.org)

Attached is a picture of two different types of power bricks that you might have in your home. The brick on the left is the larger 12w iPad brick that we issued your student to charge their iPad and keyboard case if applicable. The smaller brick on the right is a 5w brick used to charge iPhones, and iPad or watch. If you student is having trouble charging their iPad, and they are not using the larger brick, please have them do so. This should speed things up.
November Secondary Lunch Menu
From the Nurse
This is a reminder that middle school and high school students are allowed to carry ONE day’s dose of over the counter medicine with them to school. This generally is one tablet of medicine. It must be in the original container, with the label on it.
With cold/flu season upon us, this is just a reminder of the CPS policy and includes medicine such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, cold medicine, throat lozenges, cough drops.
If you have any questions, please contact Gentry health office at 573-214-3246
