Valuable Moments with Mentors at WestSide High School
WestSide's mentor program has been helping connect both daytime and evening program students with adult mentors for three years now with the goal of helping students obtain some form of post-secondary training or credential. Mentors receive training at the start of the year on the college and financial aid application process. They also learn about the students at WestSide and their unique needs. Mentors include former K-12 educators, local business professionals, and a contingent of faculty from the Wenatchee Valley College Workforce Program.
Listening and Learning from 4th Graders
The students were eager to talk with Paul and opened up about their feelings of support and safety at MIssion View. Scholars demonstrated their learning in reading and math. The class loves math and had a tremendous amount of praise for Mrs. Downey and the teachers at the school. Some students reported that reading can be challenging but they also celebrate their mistakes and are encouraged to keep working hard. Mrs. Downey has created a positive culture of care in her classroom and support for all scholars.

Hour of Code
The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered.
We live in a world surrounded by technology and we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. This year, Hour of Code events are happening during computer science awareness week, December 3-9. An Hour of Code event is your opportunity to come a learn about coding alongside your student, meet a coding professional, and have a lot of fun in the process!
All Hour of Code events are free and include raffles, prizes and an opportunity to meet a professional coder. No experience needed and support in both English and Spanish will be available. All ages welcome.
