Safety is Our Core Value

Safety is taken very seriously in HISD and Bush Elementary. Our students must be safe before we can learn which is the reason safety is the number one core goal at Bush Elementary and HISD. We are required to do a variety of safety drills throughout the year including "Lockdown" for intruders and weather drills. Each classroom is equipped with a safety manual with specific procedures for any and all types of incidents that can be followed by the teacher or substitute in the classroom. Our community does a great job being vigilant and reporting concerns to the office and law enforcement. If you see something/someone that doesn't look right in the neighborhood, around one of the schools, or on the streets, then call the Constable or Houston Police.

Student Holiday - May 30

Monday, May 30 is a student holiday. Students return to school on Tuesday, May 31.

2022-2023 Dismissal Tag Registration

Dear Parents,

If you will have a child/children enrolled at Bush for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, please fill out this form to pre-register your child/children for their 2022-2023 dismissal tag number. All children enrolled at Bush for the 2022-2023 school year must have a NEW dismissal tag number; you will NOT have the same number you had previously. The information you provide on this form will not be used for any other purpose. Each family will receive their new dismissal number tags at the Meet the Teacher event on August 17, 2022. Thank you for pre-registering-- by doing so, you will help us to make this process as coordinated and easy as possible!

Kindergarten Play Tickets

Next week the kindergarteners will begin presenting the musical, "Oceans of Fun". Today, all kindergarten families received the family ticket required for entrance on their specific performance date. Each child may have 3 total family members in attendance at the performance. Parents must bring the ticket for admission into the Multi-Purpose room via the bus lane on their child's scheduled performance day.

The musical is copyrighted and video and audio recordings are strictly prohibited.

PK and K Promotion Ceremony FAST PASS

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten promotion ceremonies will be held in the classrooms on Tuesday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. (Ms. Castaneda's ceremony is being held on a different date, and that information will be shared by her.) Any adult wishing to attend must show their government issued ID ( such as TX driver’s license) or their passport to be scanned at the front office before entering the school.

Since we realize there will be a large number of people hoping to attend this event, we have designed a FAST PASS system. If you wish to be pre-screened for the promotion ceremony and skip the long lines, here is what you will need to do:

  1. This pre-registration for the FAST PASS will begin on Tuesday, May 31 at 8:15 a.m. and conclude on Monday, June 6 at 10:15 a.m. Or you may pre-register on the morning of your child’s play performance, please bring your government issued ID (TX driver’s license) or passport to the front office beginning at 8:15 or immediately after the performance to be scanned. Please bring a government issued photo identification for the other family members who will attend or a picture of the identification to register the other family members.
  2. Once your ID has been successfully scanned, you will be given a Promotion Fast Pass with the names of the family members who have been pre-approved.
  3. On June 7th, you may enter through the carpool doors (by the flagpole) beginning at 10:45 a.m. using this FAST PASS. You must have the FAST PASS to enter the side doors. If you loose the pass, you will need to go to the front office and be scanned in again to enter. All family members listed on the FAST PASS must be present to enter on the pass. If a family member arrives later, then that person will have to check in with his/her identification at the front office.
  4. After the promotion ceremony and party are finished, you will exit through the carpool doors.

Bush Buddies Walk

Friday, June 3, 6:45 a.m.

Mark your calendars now for an early start to the last Friday of the school year. Parents, grandparents and other important adults in your student’s lives are invited to start the day off with some exercise! Join your student for a walk around the school’s track at 6:45 am before you start your day.

Has Your Child Lost a Jacket?

We have many, many jackets and sweaters in our Lost and Found. If your child has lost a jacket or sweater, please have them stop by the Lost and Found tables in the hallway by the doors to the track to look for it. All jackets and sweaters that are not claimed by the last day of school will be donated to charity.

Last Day of School - Tuesday, June 7

The students' last day of school is Tuesday, June 7. Students must be in attendance through this date to receive an end of year report card showing promotion status for next school year.

2022-2023 Bobcat Choir Auditions

I am so excited to announce that Choir will once again be available to students in 4th and 5th grade next year as an after-school, extra-curricular activity here at Barbara Bush Elementary! This will be a performance-based program, with 2 opportunities for performances during the school year. There will be one performance in the Fall and one in the Spring. Auditions will be held with current 3rd and 4th graders on May 24th & 26th during the instructional day. We are so excited to have students join us next year for Choir. There are a few requirements that are necessary to be considered to represent our school.

Requirements:

  • Academic Performance
- Maintain a conduct grade of "S" (Satisfactory) in ALL Ancillary classes and on report card.

- Maintain a passing grade in ALL subjects (70 or above).

  • Attendance/Conduct
- Choir rehearsals will be held on Thursdays from 2:45-3:45 p.m. after school.

- If students are unable to make the commitment to after-school rehearsals, they will not be eligible to join Choir. The student must be present at rehearsals to be able to perform with the Choir.

  • Conduct
- Adherence to school rules and procedures will be enforced.

- Not following school behavior rules during rehearsals or performances will not be tolerated in the Choir program.

If all of the requirements are met and the auditions are successful, we will have an excellent Choir Program next year! Please sign up on the sign-up sheet in Ms. Silva's classroom with your current grade level if you are interested in joining Choir. I am so excited to make music with everyone, and cannot wait to get started!

Pets at Bush

Safety continues to be our top priority, and while we love our furry visitors, we ask that you keep them at home during arrival and dismissal. We have several students, faculty and staff members who are allergic to dogs and cats and students who are very afraid of dogs. Please keep them at home.

Business Partnerships

The PTO is still looking for a Business Partnerships volunteer for next school year. The role would include reaching out to local businesses to partner with us at the beginning of the year and when we have big events. The Chairperson(s) would also organize spirit events throughout the year. If you are persuasive and have good communication skills then we would love to have you as a part of our board. This would require some daytime availability to communicate with businesses, but could be done on your own time. Suitable for someone with a flexible job or who stays at home.

We are now on Instagram! Follow us for the latest updates @bbepto. And Don’t forget to sign up for our Weekly E-Blast! For any questions related to PTO please contact Val Shaikh, presidentbbepto@gmail.com
