June 2 Last Day of School! Early release, 12:30
I truly cannot believe this is the last week of school! Wow! I hope to see everyone at our class party on Wednesday.
A big thank you to Mrs. Spencer for being our mystery reader on Friday. I know the kids ahve loved having all of the readers and looked forward to the big reveal each week!
We loved going in with the upper grades and getting to hear the FMHS band perfrom last week. They played lots of fun songs like Star Wars and Frozen. It was a super fun concert.
The Speeding to Read field trip turned out great. The weather could not have been more perfect. We were so close to winning more of the awards, hopefully next year we will do it! We just have to be sure and document on those reading logs. Fun day!
I am going to try and sit down and create an account for each student on an educational website Mrs. Hayunga bought. This is something they can get on all summer and keep up with their skills. I will send the log in information asap. I would love to see all of the kids get a journal or writing notebook and work on writing this summer too. They can write letters to friends, family, you can find crazy pictures that have been photo shopped on the internet (elephants sitting on a picnic table, etc.. :)) and have them write about it, they can simply write about what they did that day. Keep them writing! I know the Flower Mound Library always has a fun summer reading incentive program with lots of prizes. I'd sign them up for that and keep books in their hands too. They need to read everyday, EVERYDAY. So if you schedule some Educational Galaxy computer time, a brief writing time and daily reading time they should be able to keep their skills up over the summer. If you want to really get ahead pick up a cursive handwriting workbook and a multiplication workbook. Otherwise, swim, climb trees, build forts (great for reading in), throw water balloons, and watch popsicles melt. Get those babies outside exploring the trails by Lake Grapevine, catching bugs and playing. All of that is just as important as the academic stuff.
My daughter's graduation ceremony, party and weekend of relatives and fun was terrific. I'm still trying to catch my breath. It is always bittersweet when your children pass a major milestone. My best advice to you is to do all you can to build a strong relationship with your kids, pick your battles wisely, spend more time in the moment and cherish them exactly where they are at! Each stage is so fun and rewarding (and challenging and exhausting).
Have a great last week!
