The Wildcat Report
The Newsletter of Marcellus Elementary - January 2020
Notes from the Office
We are quickly approaching the end of a very unconventional first semester of school. Our focus always has been and always will continue to be, to do what is best for our students as we navigate this year together.
As always, please make sure your child has proper clothing to go outside for recess every day! We generally go outside unless the wind-chill is below 15 degrees. Playing outside is good for our students and it provides them the opportunity to take their masks off, even for a short period of time. Students should be prepared daily with a hat, gloves, boots, coat, snow pants/snowsuit. If you are unable to provide these items for your child, please contact the office and we will make sure your child has the items they need.
Schools Closures for Inclement will be announced via Bright Arrow phone alerts. If you have changed your phone number recently, please contact the office to update your information.

We have been challenged as a building to reach certain usage goals with with the Imagine Learning Platforms. All students, K-6th have logins for each program. This competition is only for Marcellus Community Schools and for some areas, we are competing directly against the high school!
Prizes include:
- Top 50 student recognition on social media!
- Name entered into a drawing for an Amazon Fire Tablet
- The ten teachers with highest participation will be entered into a drawing for prizes
- The principal with the highest student usage will win a GC – I really want to beat Mrs. Wagner!!
- In January, if our building surpasses our December Language & Literacy usage, I win a prize.
Please have your students login for a fun way to win prizes while learning!
THE MICHIGAN LEARNING CHANNEL
http://www.michiganlearning.org
Michigan has launched a new website called the Michigan Learning Channel. This website offers another resource for teacher, families and students to enhance learning. Multiple subjects are offered on this FREE platform and I hope you take the opportunity to check out what it has to offer.
COVID REMINDERS
We are currently in the middle of the traditional flu season. Please screen your child every morning before sending them to school. This is not only for their well-being, but for the health of all of our students and staff members.
Please monitor for:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
Remember that your child needs to be symptom free for 24 hours, without the use of medication to return to in-person learning.
DRIVELINE/DISMISSAL
I would like to highly encourage all parents to use the driveline for the dismissal process whenever it is possible. We purchased the DRIVELINE system as a way to keep our students and their family safe during the dismissal process. We have had a continual increase of adults crowding the sidewalks and this negates the system meant to provide extra safety for our everyone. I understand that some of our parents walk to pick up their students and they need to wait at the front sidewalk for their student(s) to exit the building.
However, the expectation is that if you are on school property (the sidewalk) picking up your student, you need to wear a mask and you need to social distance from other people. If you can not do this, you need to drive through the line to pick up your student. This is for the safety of everyone.
