Colonial Rhode Island
Rhode Island was founded on May 9, 1790 by Roger Williams. Roger Williams was kicked out of Massachusetts, and he used Rhode Island as a refuge for people that were persecuted for their religious beliefs. Social life in colonial Rhode Island was complicated and diverse. Social mobility and freedom was judged by wealth, and religion.
Agriculture (livestock, dairy, fishing, lumbering),
Rhode Island is Dutch for "red island" because of it's red soil.
Became a State on May 29, 1790.
