Paper Towel Rolls Needed
Last week in math this week we began to create number scrolls – writing numbers from 1 to well beyond 100!
Please send an empty paper towel roll to school with your child as soon as possible. I do have a few extra rolls here at school if you do not have any at home, just contact me to let me know you need one!

In School this Week...
Word Wall
The Word Wall is a great writing tool in our classroom. I do not expect the students to memorize each word wall word, but they do need to be aware that the words are on the wall, so they can use them as a reference when writing in the classroom.
This is a review week! There are no new word wall words this week.
Spelling
This is a review week! There are no new spelling words this week.
Have you practiced our spelling words using Spelling City? Check it out, here, and have fun spelling!! If you have an iPhone, iPod or iPad, there is a Spelling City app, too! Check out www.spellingcity.com/app for more information!
Shared Reading
In reading this week, we will be reading a variety of Hanukkah and Christmas themed books as we continue to learn about the winter holidays that are celebrated around the world.
This week we will read The Runaway Dreidel, The Eight Nights of Hanukkah, Remarkable Reindeer, and Who'll Pull Santa's Sleigh Tonight? along with a few other holiday favorites.
Everyday Math
Today in math, we will be reviewing measurement, time to the quarter hour, and domino addition in preparation for our Unit 4 math test on Tuesday!
During the rest of the week, we will practice problem solving and will continue to work on our number scrolls.
Science
Did you know that reindeer can grow antlers up to 3 feet tall? Or, that they can run up to 50 mph? We will be learning facts about reindeer this week, and creating a non-fiction reindeer fact book.
Writing
We will be using our creative writing skills to write about what would happen if Rudolph had a different nose. His red nose helps him see in foggy weather, but what would happen if he had a blue nose??
We will also write about a runaway dreidel that just wouldn't stop spinning! Where would your dreidel spin?
In the Computer Lab...
XtraMath
Please remember to practice XtraMath at home! This great resource is available to help your child build their addition fact knowledge. Although one aspect of XtraMath is "Race the Teacher," I have explained to the students that it is more important to get the correct answer rather than the fastest answer.
