Reminder - No School

There will be No School on Friday, March 18. This is a teacher work day.

Love of Learning!

Our focus this week will be on the character strength Love of Learning.

Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.

The parent virtue for the Love of Learning is Wisdom and Knowledge. Strengths of wisdom and knowledge are cognitive strengths related to the acquisition and use of information. Strengths comprised in this virtue are creativity, curiosity, open-mindedness, love of learning and perspective

Please use these quotes, video links, and character card to host conversations with your child about the character strength.

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." ~Anthony J. D'Angelo

"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere." ~Chinese Proverb

Landscape Help!

Hey BCES families! We are offering another opportunity to spread mulch and beautify our campus this Sunday March 20 from 1-5p. Please bring your wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, and garden gloves, as we will need as many of these tools as possible (you might even want to label what's yours so you are sure to go home with it!). We will provide snacks and drinks but there may not be bathroom access so please plan accordingly. Come for some part or all of the time allotted. We could really use as much help as possible! Please contact Melissa Nelson ( or Kristen Crawford ( with questions or to let us know to expect you!

Meal Benefits Application

Please consider applying for meal benefits as soon as possible . By submitting a qualifying application, families will also support the district in qualifying for additional funds to support students and learning! Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services is collecting student free and reduced lunch and attendance data from WCPSS to determine any additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the potential opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family!

Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2022 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra education funding next school year. Also, this ensures your student is covered for the first few weeks of school next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits can be found at Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.
