Miles of Smiles
On March 13, 2023, the North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) will offer the Miles of Smiles program at Plainview Elementary. Miles of Smiles is a school-based fluoride dental program, available to preschool, elementary and middle school students within the nine county health district.
Miles of Smiles utilizes Public Health Authorized Registered Dental Hygienists to conduct a dental screening, fluoride application, and give a toothbrush and toothpaste to students. Fluoride can be applied 4-6 times per year and can decrease cavity development by approximately 38%.
North Central District Health Department is an approved Medicaid Provider. A $20.00 donation is requested for children not covered by Medicaid/Kids Connection, but there is no fee to participate in the program and children will not be denied services due to inability to provide a donation.
NCDHD offers clinics in all schools that are interested across the 9-county health district. For more information about the Miles of Smiles program, contact Sara Twibell, Miles of Smiles Coordinator for NCDHD at (402) 336-2406.
Dr. Seuss Week
Fun Facts About Dr. Seuss:
Since March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, it’s often celebrated as Dr. Seuss Day or Read Across America Day, so why not celebrate some by learning some fun (or maybe even silly) facts about him!!
Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March w, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
He won a $50 bet with his publisher by writing Green Eggs and Ham using only 50 words!
If I Ran The Zoo holds the distinction of being the first published record of the word NERD.
He purchased an old observation tower in La Jolla, California where he’d write at least 8 hours a day!!!
Dr. Seuss was not a doctor! He added Dr. to his name in college to lend credibility to his writing.
His first book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, was rejected 27 times before it was finally published.
Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books in his lifetime.
