The Principal's Nest
August 25th, 2019
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
Here are a few things I want to mention:
1. This week, as I'm sure you are aware, our goal is to establish and practice classroom and school expectations. Be sure to review rules and expectations with your students and their parents through multiple forms of communication. Please make sure parents are aware of how you will be communicating with them. If you plan to use Dojo, great! But if you only plan to use email, be sure that you establish that with parents so they know how to get their concerns to you.
2. Though we will be learning and communicating expectations this week, Instruction should be going on. Last year, I was told and observed a grade level not teaching material until the 3rd week of school. I understand not diving too deep into difficult content and getting pre-assessments done, but to not do anything, is not acceptable. With the new Into Reading curriculum, there should be knowledge of what to do in at least your reading blocks. I've listed the guides here again for you to quickly access it.
3. Grade Level Chairs- Please have a quick 5-minute huddle at the end of the day on Monday. Take this time to check on your team and see if there is anything that admin needs to be aware of before Tuesday to help us run smoothly the rest of the week and the year. Email us with any concerns.
4. Here is the Master Calendar
and the Duty Schedule is linked below. Please do not change any times on these calendars as custodians, cafeteria staff, specialists, and admin are using it to plan their day as well.
5. As we saved the bathrooms near enhancements for the 2nd graders, we will be doing the same for the 5th-grade team. Please do not use those bathrooms for your grade level. Utilize the ones on your hall. This is not a new procedure, but a reminder from last year that new staff may not be aware of.
As I stated last year, tomorrow, tiny little people will fill the halls of our school. They are coming from all different walks of life and many different backgrounds. My hope is that you will inspire, motivate, and encourage them as you remember your why. Why you get up each morning and come to school to teach. Why you haven't taken another job that pays more. Why you spend portions of your already small paycheck to buy supplies, decorations, and snacks for students. We all know what we have to do tomorrow, and every day until the end of the school year. But I challenge you to remember WHY https://youtu.be/LZe5y2D60YU
