3rd Quarter Update
Jimtown Elementary School
Parents, we continue to be amazed by the overwhelming support we receive from JES families and the community. From fundraisers, to providing snacks, to helping in the classroom and on field trips...Thank you!
We continue to focus on the fundamentals of reading, writing and math. One highlight of our reading program is the implementation and use of more "Decodable Books" into our reading group library. These books allow students to be able to stretch out every word in a book and gives them authentic practice using the phonics skills being learned. Until a reader reaches level K-J, it is important to have materials that they can actually decode (or read) and not guess. This is another step in becoming a good reader.
Below are a few of the events from the last quarter....

Reminders from the office:
- Last minute changes to buses or car-riders are often difficult to convey. Please contact the office before 2:00 with these changes to allow adequate time to communicate with the teacher unless it's an emergency. Teachers often don't have time to check SeeSaw for messages so it will be necessary to call the office. 574 522-0379.
- Attendance is being tracked by the State, so please make every effort to schedule trips around school breaks and to have your child here as much as possible. This is the one aspect that was listed as an "Area of Concern" for JES during the 22-23 school year. Please continue to contact the office with EVERY absence. Thank You. 574 522-0379
BREAKFAST
- With the start of Free Breakfasts for all K-12 students, we have seen an increase in students participating. Due to the limited space in the cafeteria, we are doing a "Silent Breakfast" so students have plenty of time to eat. Car riders need to be here no later than 8:45 since the cafeteria closes breakfast at 8:50.
- You can add money to your child's account by going to: My Meal Time or send money in an envelope labeled with your child's name!
- If needed, there will be free/reduced lunch applications available at baugo.org or in the JES office.
