The festival attracts balloonists from all over the country and from around the world, "who come to experience the fun, friendship and warmth this balloon friendly city provides and to demonstrate their skills in a range of competitive activities."
"From Tuesday 15 - Saturday 19 March 2022, the skies above Waikato will be decorated with a sea of colour and movement. Join us to experience the fun, friendship and warmth our balloon friendly city provides."
WAYNE GOOD - Arkanda Living & Interiors
We intended visiting Arkanda in 2021, but postponed it because of Covid numbers in the Waikato.
The small wooden cottage for which Wayne Good paid one dollar in Auckland last year is at the heart of his new enterprise at Gordonton, near Hamilton.
Nourish magazine wrote about Wayne in a recent edition:
"Wayne is a trained chef, interior designer and intrepid traveller, the three strands—interior consultation, tours and culinary demos—tucked neatly under the umbrella of his business, Arkanda Living & Interiors.
Arkanda’s design studio operates in Cambridge, the culinary demos typically run wherever Wayne is, the tours are on hold due to the global coronavirus pandemic, and now there’s a fourth strand: a big corrugated-iron rural barn, selling French and English antiques and other period pieces.
The rustic barn is adjacent to the one-dollar weatherboard cottage—Wayne’s new home—and a similarly relocated vintage school classroom. So with a lot of things happening in one green paddock, it’s best to start at the very beginning, when Wayne had the opportunity to develop a 1ha space on a Gordonton farm. He envisaged living on the property, refurbishing the existing barn for an antiques business, and running his cooking schools on site."
WHAT WILL WE BE TREATED TO?
"More treasures have found their way into the barn this week. A cute wee antique dresser, quite rustic, and a great size, originally from South Africa, a very interesting settle with old Vietnamese faces, and a stunning French Garland for behind the bed."
Raconteur, international voyager, interior designer par excellence, gourmet - Wayne is someone you won't want to miss!
