Grandparents/Special Friends Day!

Next Friday October 14th is Grandparents/Special Friends Day. Your child may bring his/her grandparent of special friend to school that day. Grandparents will arrive by 9:30am and meet in the cafeteria for cookies and a small introduction by Mr. Bjerken.

Then they will come to our classroom and meet up with the kids and we will be doing some fun activities! Let me know if you have any questions.

Fundraising has begun! Thank you to all who have donated so far. Our class has raised about $200 so far! We earned our "Crazy Sock Day" for this Monday October 10th!

Our color run will happen on Tuesday October 18th! As we raise money our classroom has incentives! We have them at the classroom and grade level.

$200: Crazy Socks Day

$400: Hat Day

$600: Stuffed Animal Day

$800: Art Day

$1,000 Teacher Treat!

SO FUN!!! Hope we can earn some of these fun activities from your fabulous donations! Let me know if you have any questions.

What did we learn this week?

Reading: We continued our turn and talks by reading fiction books. We created a "matrix" with our non-fiction research about fall. (explanation above)

Writing: I continued modeling the the writing process. (Think, Draw, Say and Test, Clap and Count, Write) The students are orally telling me their sentence by clapping and counting while stating the "Who" and "Did What?"

Phonics: We continued practicing the sounds our zoo friends make and we also began learning "snap words." The words we learned this week were; with and see. We learned a new song called "Down By the Bay" where we continued to learn how to rhyme.

We also learned the poem "Jack and Jill." We continued our work with rhyming words.

Math: We began to subitize in math. Subitize is when you see a group of objects and can tell how many are in a group without counting 1 to 1. We did many activities using 5-Frames, Dots, and Dice. We also learned some cool new songs.
