Character WOW: Joyfulness vs. Self-pity
Joyfulness vs. Self-pity
Character WOW!
“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.” ~ Proverbs 15:13 (KJV)
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” ~ Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)
“Joy”, more than any other emotional characteristic, serves as a measurement of your closeness to God. Joy is . . . “The spontaneous enthusiasm of my spirit when my soul is in fellowship with God.” The apostle Paul exemplified this joy in his letters and life.
Paul was a prisoner for Christ when he penned his letter to the Philippians. Sixteen times, Paul uses the words “joy” or “rejoice” in his letter. He writes, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Paul had learned the secret of living with joy even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
What’s the secret? Stay close to Jesus and allow His joy to be your joy!
My Declaration: “I will live close to Jesus allowing His joy to be my joy.”
Bible story: Sarah and Isaac (Genesis 21:1-3, 6-7)
Quote: “Joy is the serious business of heaven." ~ C.S. Lewis
