Notes from the Principal

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. It is very busy here as the first semester at Poynter Middle School rapidly is coming to a close. We are preparing to launch into second semester. Many events happen at Poynter in the next few months so I want to make sure that you are aware of all that happens from January through June.

In the next few months, we will launch into new classes, spring musical, SBAC (state testing), forecasting for 8th grade to 9th grade at Liberty, 7th grade to 8th grade at Poynter as well as start the forecasting for our elementary school 6th graders.

Please feel free to contact myself or our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Thomas if you have any questions.

College Readiness

At Poynter Middle School, college readiness is one of our goals. We help build skills for students to be successful in high school. These skills are designed to give them an opportunity to work on course work toward college readiness. One of the many tools we use is Cornell Notes. You may have heard from your students and/or teachers about this note taking system. This tool allows students to start to organize information from their classes, think critically, and develop the ability to have greater study habits. Below is a sample of what Cornell Notes may look like.

Be Connected Week

One of our missions at Poynter Middle School is to help student be connected to their school. This means helping our students learn that their school is a community. Next week we will have BE CONNECTED week. This week focuses on many ways to stay connected with school. As part of it we focus on anti-bullying. Students will be viewing a video that may weigh heavy on their hearts. If you would like to view this video prior to your child being it, we will be hosting a viewing session Monday, January 11th. from 2:00-3:00 pm. Please feel free to give our Assistant Principal, Katie Thomas a call if you have any questions.
