The Rundown
Adult Leadership Update // 05-22-20
You running out of ramen yet?
I know that ministry can feel all the more discouraging during this season because we can't rely on all the conveniences and "normalcy" that we've been used to. We can't see each other face to face and we can't hear each other's voices. But friends, there is much ministry to be done. I would argue that there's a greater need now than ever. Our youth group has been exposed and our youth have been exposed. What they are doing and what they are not doing tells a great deal of where their heart is. And now we get to see the spiritual health of each of our students...and now we get to step in and disciple all the more.
Here's some stuff to help us all as we move forward in our ministry:
1. Summer & Beyond
2. Summer Guide to DGs
3. Student Evaluations
SUMMER AND BEYOND
- Purpose of Conclave: 1) this is our teaching time for the week. While Wednesday nights will be more bible study and preaching, Friday nights will be geared towards building their theological knowledge in topics found in and related to Christianity 2) to have a time once a week where the youth group comes together to gather.
- Moving to Conclave in the summer was also meant to give our ACCESS leaders a break for the summer so that they would miss it and desperately want to come back by the fall.
- If you'd like to help out with Conclave, please let me know.
2.DGs: After quite a bit of talks and opening meetings for all the leaders to express their opinions, I think what is best is if we continued DGs for the summer. I think if we were to pause DGs and/or cancel them for the summer we would lose way too much and risk too much with the students and we would have to play too much catch up. If you are ok with it leaders, i'll ask you to continue to meet with your DGs weekly until the end of July. August we will take a break and we will give everyone a break.
- Purpose: DG is mainly designed to create community and be a space for discipleship to flourish, we know that a lot of it is relationship building. There's simply no way for healthy discipleship can exist if it's only for a hour a week. Discipleship will be through purposeful, intentional relationships. DG is meant to create a platform for that to happen.
- In addition, some of the leaders ask for a overall guideline of DGs and so i've created another newsletter explaining how to do DGs this summer. You'll find the link below.
3. Other Plans: As of now, there's nothing officially scheduled yet on our CBC Youth Calendar but there is a possibility of doing a virtual conference with the other Chinese church youth ministries in July. I'll send you more of an update as our youth and leaders decide on the direction for it. As for you leaders, I want to always make sure that you yourselves are doing ok, have resources to grow, and are taken care of during this time.
While I know we have been scrambling for the past few months, now we're slowly trying to plan in light of the whole situation. In the meantime, I will still encourage each and everyone of you to:
- Love the Lord with all YOUR heart and YOUR soul and YOUR mind. Find ways to love Him more and more each day...before you care for the youth, before you do other things.
- I'll invite you to join in on a congregational sermon/study. Sunday Mornings at 10am or Wednesday nights at 8pm. I'll also invite you to grow your mind with us on Wed. at 9:45am for Systematic Theology study.
- Love, serve, and disciple others: during this time turn your eyes upward to the Lord for strength so that you stretch your hands outwards to serve others.
END OF YEAR EVALUATION
We ask you to answer these questions honestly and patiently. Each student in your DG should be evaluated by July 10.
