Thanksgiving Holiday Break
It is important that students practice their reading, writing, and number sense over the Thanksgiving break! Teachers will begin assessing student learning for mastery immediately after returning from the holiday. I will be assessing reading levels and reassessing letter/sound relationships, sight words, number identification, number sets to 20, counting to 100 by 1's and 10's, etc. and looking for mastery of skills.
Items Needed in Class
We will also need: Copy Paper and Glue Sticks
Native American Pow-Wow on Wednesday

Please send in different types of popped popcorn:

A Pow Wow is a Native American tradition that brings together many different tribes and communities. It’s a special event for Native American communities that celebrates dance, song, socializing and honors a rich heritage.
Literacy Learning
In Reader's Workshop, we will be reviewing identifying characters, settings, and events from a story. Next week, students will be expected to draw or write about these story elements independently and are encouraged to tell as much as they can. You can practice this at home with any text (fiction or nonfiction). Try asking your child: Who or what is the character? Where does the story take place? What happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story? Then have your child find 3 pictures in the text that support their answer.
In writing next week, we will continue to write narratives. Students are expected to tell who, what, when and where in the story as well as to continue to practice what good writers do. Ask your child to tell you about this!
Today, we learned all about Veterans Day and all that they do to help keep us safe! Next week, we will continue to research the Pilgrims and Native Americans. This research will help us understand the meaning of Thanksgiving! Continue this conversation at home.
Math Memo:
This week and next week, we will continue to practice deomposing our teen numbers and understanding that 17 is 7 more than 10. Next week teachers will be looking for mastery of previously learned skills. Please continue to work with your child on being able to write numbers correctly, count aloud to 100 by 1's and 10's as well as count objects one-to-one, compose teen numbers using ten frames, and sort objects by one or more attribute and by count.
Students will complete a second quarter summative assessment regarding these skills at the end of the semester.
