Weekly Update

WE DID IT!!

We made it to the last week. Like you, there were days when I wondered if we would, but we did. The last few days are upon us and they will be very busy indeed.

No PLC's this week!!!!!

We are officially a Blue Zones School. Great job to the Blue Zones/Social Committee for leading the charge to accomplish all of the requirements. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be on Tuesday at 9:00.

We will have an ALL STAFF meeting on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. Classified staff-I would really like for you to be there. I will pay you for your time.

Friday is a 1:30 dismissal and then PD. We will start our SIP planning and continue with it on Monday. When we are done, we are done!! The plan is to work in 3 teams: Reading, Math and SEB just like last year. Most of the time will be work time and we will meet at 3:00 on Monday with a completed SIP (I hope). Tuesday is a clerical day. When you are packed up and ready and have checked out with either Ashley or me you will be free to go.

There are lots of fun activities planned for the week. Sometimes our kids who need structure have the most difficulty with all of the schedule changes and out of routine activities. Some of our students become more anxious knowing that summer is coming and their daily anchor of school will be gone. What lies ahead at home can be unpredictable and while they don't necessarily voice their concerns, they can act out. Remember to be patient anticipate that this might happen. When you are ready for it, it won't be as shocking when it occurs.

Horizons is offering daily lunch for children at Daniels Part this summer. I volunteered a couple of times and it is a great program. Some of our families do use this service and Boys and Girls Club also attends about once per week. They are currently looking for more volunteers. It takes about 1.5 hours of your time and you don't have to commit to any kind of a schedule. You can sign up to help once or as many times as you'd like.

FAST substantially deficient letters went home on Friday with the students. I've had one phone call already. If a parent emails or calls with concerns and you don't feel comfortable answering their questions, please forward them to me.

Garfield Garden has been planted. New this summer is a family picnic night once per month. The goal is to get more families to come during the summer. The first family night will be Thursday, June 18th at 5:30. A free light supper will be served with Linda Ashley sharing some items from our garden or that will be growing in our garden. Adding this monthly event is the reason for the new grill that we used last week for Hotdog Day. You are welcome to join us with your family for this event.
